Well I have finally been able to upgrade from my RSM 130D, The RSM has been a very good tank but I have slowly been running out of room.

Today we left Manchester at 5am, drove to Exeter, broke down the tank and were back home for 1pm.....

The livestock was dropped off as I intended to sell on most of the LR (way to much of it) the soft corals (not wanted) and the fish (non suitable).....

I spent the afternoon clean all the hardware....see pictures below:

The tank all cleaned up (not that it needed much cleaning).

The catenate (almost perfect match for out furniture).

External overflow box with the top section of the return piped refitted.

How the returns enter the tank.

The Aquamedic Riff 500 filter system.

The "sump" that the filter system sits in.

The whole shee-bang put together, but in a temporary location.

Re: Whippies 2 foot cube upgrade (at last)

To be honest I'm in two minds as to run the Aquamedic Riff 500 filter system or sell it and convert the supplied "sump" into an actual sump.

I have yet to run it yet, but the guy I bought it off seems to have had good results (the tank seemed very healthy).

I was horrified to find out these things cost the better part of £400 quid new.....so they really should work!!

    Any advice guys?

Not shown in the pictures are a Giesemann Nova 2, 150 watt halide and a controllable Tunze 6045 (manual control).

After I've made my mind up what to do regarding the filter system and I need a few bits of LR to add to what's in the RSM (I sort of sold all the stuff I got with the tank, well Paul did!!)

So it could be the next couple of days, or it could be a week or two.

So do I sell the filter system, or scrap it and just keep the Turbofloater 1000 skimmer?

Thanks Jen, we had to travel the length of the country to get the "right" tank though

Sell the whole lot, there a good skimmer i used to have one but they will take up to much space in a small sump. I would use your mce600 on the sump, still as a hang on then you can utilise all the space available.

better do it justice after taking my sunday out to watch you rag my gearbox.... hehe
looks lovely now all cleaned up,
i agree with getting shut of the riff, with the money youll get back of you could partition the sump, stick a light in,dsb and itll be as good if not better than that riff thingy, plus youll have cash left over for some nice stock...

Re: Whippies 2 foot cube upgrade (at last)

Thanks for the nice comments guys, and your views regarding the Riff filter........I'm tempted to try the Riff filter to start with. I've just fired up the skimmer (just in a sump full of water I saved from my last water change) the skimmer is near as dammit silent and even started collecting foam within 5 minutes!!

If it doesn't suit after a month or 2 is would be relatively easy to shut the sump down remove it and add the glass partitions (running the tank on to Tunze nanostreams in the mean time).

If it does work it will be nice that I'm running something a bit different too.

Looks like a nice tank. Is this the one that Paul had for a while? If so, good price.

What are you planning on keeping in it? Will it be a migration from the RSM?
