Hi, I have a 255lt reef aquarium and 100lt sump. Im going to buy a Bubble Magus Curve In Sump Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer.

I have two in mind the 3.5 and the 5.

Which should i go for as one is 100 to 300lt and the second is 300 to 500lt.

Is bigger the best option in this case.

    Thanks. Paul

Personally I'd go for the curve 5. My skimmer have all been rated twice the tanks volume...currently got a 650-700L tank with a deltec sc2060 which is rated 1500l

I had a curve 5 running my 250ltr 2x2x2 and to be honest I wasn't overly impressed I only had 5 fish so I found it struggled to pull much out even with the water level 2inches below the neck and dosing vodka I never had a great skim. I upgraded tanks there and I'm running a aqua one elite 600 and even with more volume, the same fish and the same vodka dosing levels it's a lot better With a more consistent skim. I don't know if I had a faulty model or I was doing something wrong in setting it up but I'm glad I have the elite skimmer a chance as my n03 and p04 are now both dropping only a week after the skimmer breaking in and I tried for 3 months with nopox and then a month with the vodka to get them to drop. It may be a coincidence but I believe it struggled because of my low stocking of fish.
I did run a older bm skimmer in my 4x2x2 and it was great and I've seen plenty of people with great tanks using the Curve 5 but I've also saw threads with people asking about similar issues with a few of the Curve models, I know I wouldn't be looking @ changing to a bm skimmer again.

Thanks for the advise. Very much appreciated.

I'll post again when I decide on a skimmer.

This site never fails to support the novice. Thanks again.
