I eventually went the whole hog and bought a Vortech Powerhead and I'm surprised on how noisy it is. At low spead there's a slight a low frequency hum that just gets worse as I speed it up. Its certainly noisier than my Sicce and my Korallia. Maybe its not set up right but honestly there's not much to aligning the 2 parts on the glass. Does anyone have a similar experience.

Mine is noisy. I thought it was normal, but heard another local one recently and the other is silent.
I just live with it as out of warranty now I believe.

If its new and lined up correctly, it should be quietish. If its older then it may need a new wet side, both my mp10 & 40 make a noise. Doesnt bother me that much though

I suppose i'm not helping given that the tank's in the lounge next to my chair. It's also feasible that it's not quite lined up correctly. I did purchase it second hand and is only about 3 weeks old. The wet side is in perfect order. I'll continue to line it up. I also need to figure out how to set it up.

Well, to give you an idea.. I can hear mine upstairs in the bedroom. It's downstairs in the hallway which is quite far away.

I suppose it's down to the interpretation of "Quiet" and my expectation may be too high.

None of the Vortech pumps are quiet, it all depends how much noise you can put up with or disguise.

My MP10's noise level was acceptable, bearing in mind how well it shifted the water.

I get the impression they are gradually wearing themselves out from the first time you switch it on!

Think I've found why it's noisy. The ceramic shaft is cracked. Serrves me right for buying a second hand one. Now I have to buy spares. False economy.

As far as I am aware, on the MP10, you will have to buy a whole wet side.

These are not the same as a "normal" pump, from what I can remember, the ceramic is a coating on a steel shaft.
