I managed to buy a second hand tank today.

I was going to get a new one, but after thinking about it, its still the same size room, so a 5 or 6 foot tank would still struggle to fit in, therefore I have gone with a wider and deeper tank.

My current tank is 48x24x24 plus sump with a volume of approx 100 gallons (UK) / 452 litres excluding sump and displacement.

The new tank is 48x28x30 plus sump with a volume of approx 145 gallons (UK) / 660 litres excluding sump and displacement.

Stay tuned.

tbh mate, I am doing this because it is a way of ruling everything out in one go.

All the kit has been ruled out so far. Therefore by doing this, I can 1) Catch my Tomato Clowns, 2) Change the sand in the sump, 3) Change the sand in the DT, 4) Change the egg crate from squares to diamonds (petty I know but its desperate measures)

I am moving the tank from where it is currently, up against the wall in the corner, so it gives me half of the room back in reality as well. I just need to get a smaller desk for the PC now though, which there is a nice, smaller one at IKEA that will do the job perfectly.

I am at the point of giving up on SPS in the other tank, something is still amiss. There is no way of ever finding out what the problem was with it, and rather than wait forever, this satisfies myself as the final closure on the other setup.

I am also (probably, although still not decided) going to change back to RSCP salt as well, that way absolutely everything has then been ruled out.

I haven't really got any pictures apart from this one.

I know mate, I was going to get a 5 footer, but then I would still have the space issue.

It took me a good 10 minutes this morning to make my mind up though, this way we can use the money that we got for the family and the house etc

Wise choice, maybe slightly rash but at least you'll be in the good books. That looks like a real nice set up, wheres that coming from?

I envy you! but i can inherit your tank thread title now - lost three more frags today, im guessing the carbon has exhausted.

please go with metal halides this time Hysterical

In all seriousness it looks nice and it appears to come with cables to suspend net curtains from. This tank was meant for you.

Its about 180 mile round trip or so mate.

Happy with the decision I think, I did like the £1300 tank that is at Lees (killis old one) but £1300 is a **** load of money.

But the main thing for me is the ruling out of everything, I know tanks need to mature, but when you cannot keep plating alive something is not right. Now I know I have done absolutely everything this way round and got a nice new looking tank (not that there was anything wrong with the other of course)

You can have the title dude, it did my head in completely, but sorry to hear you lost some more.

Congrats on the upgrade/downgrade Ged! Looks a great tank that youre getting. Im very envious of you right now. Going to be atleast a year hefore i get permission for an upgrade.

Is it just the tank you are getting or new lights etc?

Purely changing the tank, pelmet, sump and pipework mate.

All the kit I have is sufficient to go with the upgrade. Thankfully.
