Re: The Couch's New Six Footer

OK, so we got the old tank shifted Friday night, left a huge gaping hole in the living room......

View attachment 68861 :w00t: Couldn't believe how much dust was in the alcove, Mrs Couch will be getting a reprimand smiley-sex020

So, come this morning, Mr Tucker and I got started on the stand. I got this off a bloke in Preston, cost me tenner. Only thing is, got it home and it wasn't tall enough, so some tinkering was required. Been to B&Q to get the timber cut to size, we were able to utilise most of the timber from the original build. Pics of the workforce below....

The furry fella was sacked due to regularly urinating on random pieces of timber  I expect a dogfight over his dismissal.....:whistling:

Things really started to come together quite quickly.......The original top became the bottom, the uprights replaced with 28" high pieces of 4x2. The original uprights became bracing for the new base. The fella who built the stand originally certainly made it to last, the screws were enormous ! All joints were glued first, then screwed together. We now have five uprights at the back (including the corner posts.) We then created the top frame from more 4x2, overall height should be approx 35". Here's a couple of pics of the semi built stand in the alcove...

The rear uprights are now also bolted to the wall, believe me, this ain't moving anywhere ! We got the top frame fitted, levelled things out, anyone guess what's coming next..................? A picture especially for Liam....

View attachment 68871 Sorry mate

I thought the following was a private moment between me and Tommy, but Lesa was too quick with the camera....

View attachment 68872 Honestly, he was just asking me to hold a tool..............................

Got the back boarded out, and we managed to get the sockets mounted as well, really made up with the progress....

A pic of Tommy doing what he does best....

Well, it's been a good humoured thread, but Lesa and I would really like to thank Tom for all of his help today, we couldn't have done it without him, as my DIY skills are virtually non existent ! He's also given up nearly his whole weekend to sort this out. What a guy !
We'll be back on the case tomorrow, finish off the electrics, bit of painting etc etc etc. More pics hopefully !

We've managed to pick up a virtually new Deltec skimmer, (thanks mr Durkin), and a new ATI Sunpower light unit . All we need to do now is find a tank!!!!
I'd also like to thank those who've given us loads of good avice over the last few days, you know who you are...thanks lads we really are grateful.
We've also had quite a bit

Thanks for taking the time to read our diary

    Phil & Lesa

All looks good so far mate, apart from the bubble! I'm no expert (as indicated) but I'm sure it should be in the middle.......

Re: The Couch's New Six Footer

Is everything getting plugged in via the double socket behind the stand?

A tank thread with no tank, how ridiculous :whistling: Things are moving fast! You not decided where to get a tank from yet?
