what a nightmare stressful afternoon at work then come home phone hadn't stopped ringing because of a weird customer today
look at my tank that looked great yesterday and......

it looks crap can hardly see in it its gone all milky corals have receded sps gone brown polyps all closed aneneme lying on the sand all the xenia looks dead :(

only thing i can think of is my calc was 390 so ive been dosing kalkwaiser water to the tank pretty constant to up it ,i must have overdone it

done an 11gall water change as that was already mixed and started another mix for tomorrow

will do some tests later as have to go out soon dads taxi and im really not in the mood

plus frags i had restuck last night dropped off grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

i can hate this hobby sometimes,i was so happy with the tank yesterday it looked rammed full now it looks half empty

thats not a nice sight to come home to..
I would do what you doing and just hammer the changes, sounds like something has definately crashed and is releasing into the water..
will be a case of finding the culprit and diluting it out of the water, almost definately going to be a nem or a softy thats that started it

I'm sure this wont be a result of just the calcium being 390, but will be down to a soft coral or as above sugested a nem, maybe if you run some carbon to remove the toxins, hope all works out ok.

Wouldn't have thought it was CA myself.
Do you have Caulerpa or maybe some mud which has got into the return pump?

Re: just when it was going well

If I'm reading it right then what's the calc at now? What did you increase it to and how quickly? Is that what calcium precipitating out of the water looks like or am I way off the mark?

If you were dosing kalc pretty much constantly it would be the pH that would jump into my mind first. Have you checked it?

My first thought would be the same as funky. If so this will clear hopefully without longterm damage. Never seen a coral/ nem do this IME so far.

Re: just when it was going well

right now my tank looks nearly total wipeout,my 2 big rbta's are gone so likely that could be the cause or just a result
sps corals nearly all gone ,tank still milky looking plus smells of dead fish but all accounted for apart from maybe 1 chromis but that wouldnt do this in 24hrs

if new tank wasnt coming this would of had me pack it in,my tank looked the best it had looked in 8 years of trying and now looks like crap, all the time spent and money gone
my two best colonies look gone an large table acro from acropora house and my tricolour plus all my hystrix are dead too and these were large and vivid pink

like i said not sure if i really can e bothered again apart from custom tank already ordered
