Hello all :)
Added photos at the bottom, sorry for the delay!

200 litre aquarium
Arcadia OT2 Luminaire 4x39w
30kg Live Rock
V2 Skimmer
15kg Sand (8kg out of a healthy tank)
3 wavemakers

We also have:
10kg of Live Rock from our old tank, which we will be transferring over. My question is though, when would it be best to transfer the rock from the old tank? Straight away when scaping?
Secondly, what are peoples opinions on painting the back of the tank blue? We're undecided as of yet, but the tank is so bloody big we really ought to decide BEFORE we put it into the little alcove it will be going into, lol.

The old tank is smaller than this one, (obviously), so it's probably going to look really bare for a while, and I'll apologise now for the undoubtably boring photo's of empty tanks I will post :-d

Thanks for looking,

TamGui

my only question would be the 8kg of sand you are transferring over, are you rinsing this. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will say whether or not it will need rinsing

No, we won't be rinsing the sand, as it is from an already healthy/established tank, and will give a nice rich bacteria starter :thumbup1:

The sand should be rinsing totally to remove all the detritus out of it before adding it to your new tank. It will still be live if you do this in the old tank water, it will just remove the build up of crap its holding.

I would also be tempted to give the LR a good shake in some of you old tank water before you move it. The LR can go straight into your new system yes.

You may well end up with a cycle, but you will have to check your levels daily and do water changes as required.

Good luck

Imo i would use a cup full of the mature sand to seed the new and bin the rest. how deep do you want to go with sand?
I like a black background myself because it makes the colours stand out a bit more thou it will tend to get covered in coraline algea whatever you have, choice is yours

I always thought adding some sand from a healthy thing was the right thing to do? So I'm guessing I didnt educate myself enough there.

We still have some livestock in the old tank, some duncans and zoas and some fish, clown etc, how long would they "surive" with just filtration and skimmer? or just a couple of kgs of rock?

thank you once again!

It is a good idea and will seed the new sand, you just don't want all the crap that comes with the bacteria. As long as you wash it through in your old tank water it will be fine.

Ok, photo time! I'll only post a couple, but I took photos of the whole process. So I have more if you want to see :)

After roughly an hour of faffing about, in goes the live rock! (Looking down into the tank) :

All rock in, all water in, lights and equipment attached, and ready to go!:

After a bit of a late night, full of some tense moments, and choice swearwords, this is how it looked this morning:

And finally, just taken a few minutes ago, 24 hours since we started :) :

There's a few other bits and bobs in there, but haven't really got any good photos of them. Will try get some more, with the proper camera :)

Lastly, here's the fts as it stands now. (Will change when I get my new frags tomorrow :D ) :

Nice tank, I'm new to this and have a similar sized tank, so I enjoy these type of threads as I can see what I'm building up to (patiently!)

looking good but bet you'll wish you'd painted the back ,i do

We did black out the back, just not with paint :) I wanted to make sure everything "at the back" was done before we moved it in, since it's in an alcove, not against a wall, there's not much room for access at the sides :)

Hello again all.
Payday = LFS day!

Added a Peppermint shrimp today, who I now cannot find to get a photo of... But we also added this handsome fella! (Sorry for the photo quality, he's camera shy I think.)

Also added a Mandarin a couple of weeks back, but hadn't been able to catch a photo of him yet. He's a lot less shy these days, so here he is also:

Will add a photo of Pepper when he comes out of hiding.

Photos are only small as I've hosted them straight from my phone, with Tapatalk app. Can put them properly online with photobucket if you can't see them very well :)

I promised it would be the last upgrade (for now...) :whistling:
It's 100ltrs bigger, got a bloody big sump, and it's moved into the living room aswell.

Sold the tomato a while back already as it became quite agressive.

Come round and see if you want, might have a few bits you might want :)
