How long are your main lights on for? Not including the 2 that sometimes people have on for a few hours either side of main lights.

Yes pal, got my lamps after having a deliberation with Ste at burscough today. Having a prob at the moment with corals stripping and don't know why. I have dipped a few randoms today and nothing came off them although the dead monti had quite a lot of astria stars under them. My options for the stripping are as follows

1, build up of ions from not doing water changes while balling
2, dodgy balling salts but loads of people use the ones I use
3, lights need replacing ( done today )
    4, too much carbon

Not really sure whats going wrong but ive changed 240L this week and onother 60 to do in the morning so fingers crossed going to get it under control.

Just wanted to make sure you had got my reply didn't want you to think i was ignoring your post,

from the options above imo Dave only the first 2 would cause stripping, i am presuming you have had no kh swings, or temp issues ,?

no pal and sorry ive not rang you yet, familys gone to Wembley today and ive been running round all day. Need to have a chin wag about this stripping with you if I don't get on top of it. I had a feeling it wouldn't be the lamps as that would prob just causing browning to start with. As for the carbon I don't really no a lot about over dose of carbon other than it being linked to fish disease. Fingers crossed its the ions thing and my water changes will sort it and im also going to calibrate my refractometer tomorrow, am I right in thinking I can do this with ro water pete? Thanks in advance

Mine are on for a total of 13 hours and full power for 5 hours.
How much carbon are you using? Are they going from the base?

I always do mine with ro Dave,Imo you have done the right thing doing the water changes ,you know the old saying ,best thing for pollution is dilution, If i have ever had a problem ,that i dont know whats happened or why, its always what i do, but dont change too much to soon ,has you will find you will get parm swings ,and that can make things worse,,,,Pete

Went with this Pete and really happy with it. I did not like the look of the actinic when I was there and I was told that the Fiji purple carrys a lot of actinic light so the tube in the middle is the Fiji purple
