Diatoms now seem to be burning themselves out and the Triton seems to be taking hold of growth, etc..

Will run Triton for a month and send off for a water test [emoji3]

Triton thus far seems to be working :D

I purchased the Triton Core 7 elementz as they don't need diluting with RO and are therefore very easy to dose via syringe or dosing pump. I'm currently dosing only 2ml of each per day and have the following observations:

My corals are growing (at last) and displaying some nice colour and look healthier (e.g. my war coral was receding, but has now plumped up and is spilling over the frag plug side :) and my plating red monti has developed a nice white growth rim :)).

My skimmate is cleaner - which according to the boffins that provide it, means that it has now taken hold of my system and is doing what it's supposed to do :) (i.e. there are less dissolved organics, etc. for it to skim).

No more water changes!!!!!!! :aaaaa:(until the ICP test tells me otherwise that is o_O).

Alk is stable....but is too high (the target for Triton is 8 - mine is 10.5), so the solution is to bring it down very slowly by reducing the dosage of the elementz, however, their guide says that stable Kh is the key (so I may just wait to see what the ICP tests tell me). Note: The guide does state that converting a mature system will generate elevated levels and the solution is to reduce Kh very slowly.

Cost me £31 for 4x bottles of Core7 Elementz from here: https://charterhouse-aquatics.com/s...dwUdLOpZJqqzPwCSjgbomO7WLpMfNRQkaAhHYEALw_wcB

If I dose 2ml per day of each (no doubt will go up as the corals thrive and grow) then my elementz should last me around 6 (worst case scenario) to 9+ months, so it works out cheaper than salt, although will have to factor in a few ICP water tests :)

Salt for this period would cost me £100 + all the RO + bottles of trace elements say 4x @ £12 = approx. £180 not to mention all the hassle of making and mixing the salt and doing the water changes

Tanks looking great Steve, I've though about going triton a few times but I work away a lot so not sure it's something I could leave for Amanda to do while I'm away.

Thanks [emoji3] You could set it up on a dosing pump, but the dosage could change due to a shift in the Kh reading. I'm currently still trying to get mine to the recommended DKh of 8 [emoji848]. In order to do this I've gone from an initial 4ml of each Triton elementz with an initial DKh of 10 to dosing 1.5ml of each with a DKh of 9.45 so am getting there albeit slowly.

My water is clear, the fish and corals healthy, but my war coral is not as plumped as it was before and some seem to be thriving whilst others not so, which may be down to changes in No3 and Po4 levels.

My plan is to keep at it for a few more weeks then to get a water test done [emoji3]. Who knows I may have something bad in the like copper [emoji848][emoji3]

Can't believe my tank is nearly a year old :).

I gave up on the Triton for a while, but am now back on it and this time round it seems to be working.....my corals are growing and Zoas spreading (my Sunny D's have gone from 14 heads to 28 in a matter of weeks :aaaaa:). My Kh has stabilised around 8.3 and I only add Triton every 2 to 3 days to maintain this. The plan now is to continue for a few more weeks and get a test done (last water change was over 3 weeks ago :)).

I've added another gyre pump (now have two) to complete the gyre flow setup with the advanced controller....having modified the settings to give 7 different options throughout a 24hr period I have to say that the flow is now spot on for my tank size and it's occupants (corals sway nicely and the waves generated at the top give a nice shimmer effect on the living room carpet :D).

Pics to follow!

Ooops!!!!!! Just noticed that I have bought and been using Triton Core 7 Reef Supplements instead of Triton Core 7 Base Elements  So believing that my tank is now following the Triton Method.......I now know that it isn't.

Reef supplements are for systems following methods other than Triton, so guess what I will be ordering tomorrow  There is obviously a difference between the two products, albeit a subtle one, as both require the maintenance of DKh around 8 to be effective?

So my plan is to monitor nutrients and do a water change if necessary and then start with the Core 7 Base Elements with no more water changes when it turns up.

Just ordered a AI Prime HD for my setup.

My plan is to cut a hole in the centre of my cube tank hood, mount it on the bracket (also purchased today) from the back of the tank and run it alongside my aquabeam led strips.

This should therefore give amazing light capable of supporting sps in the middle, shining directly down onto and covering my rockscape. The existing led's and periphery of the Prime HD will supply the edges and provide light covering the whole tank (as they do now).

Some great vids on youtube for these lights and the settings. I plan to set the light based upon the ecotech AB+ settings for SPS corals, the settings are at the back end of this video clip:

They look a smart little light,
I know it’s only a small thing but the clips to hold the wires are a top idea,
I use the kessil lights and had to use cable ties to try and do a neat job of clipping the wires to the hanging brackets,
When you pay a lot of money for something you would expect it to come with something better to make it fit neatly

Doug.

I am LOVING my AI Prime HD!! Amazing colours, water shimmer is beautiful and the abilitty to control it is fabulous too :D

Monitoring my zoas closely as was a little concerned they may melt a little due to new lighting all good so far with the acclimatisation setting.

Now to minitor coral growth and polyp counts over the coming months xxView media item 30

There's nothing wrong with cable ties though, especially when you have a ready free supply via work (they where all that prevented my old car from falling apart :risas3:).
