Can anyone suggest something as this is completely doing my head in.

I cannot keep any SPS frags alive for more than about 3 weeks.

    Tank is approx 450litres

31.5 litres water change every 8 days without fail

2 x Vortech MP40WES at just over half, anti sync

    8 x 54w ATI T5 light unit

    Deltec APF600 skimmer

    Cheato and 65w CFL bulb

    SG - 1.026 (never fluctuates)

    Mg - 1450 approx

    Calcium - approx 440

KH - Whenever checked either 7.5 or 7.5 ish so consistent

Nitrates - approx 10 on Salifert

    Phosphates, last tested - 0.10

I know Nitrates and Phosphates are not optimal, but I would expect corals to brown, not die completley.

I was at first blaming the Flame Angel, but I don't think he kills them, just eats polyps.

Flame angel, their sneaky, said it before, unless they are established colonies, frags don't like being upset,I have same problem with sps
Flame angels are gorgeous fish and why I got into marines but they like to eat corals, you have to chose which you want more :)

Flame Angel is going mate, I swapped a baby one for mine with Liam, I just cannot catch him at the moment.

I am going to rip the LR out I think, but I don't want to mess around with the tank at the moment, as Dory has WS

Angel fish, you know it's the reason just looking for other answers ,then when it's gone get nev to set up tank, and feed it,don't do your water changes, add corals any everything else he does with his special hands and in no time he will have a stunning tank too :)
Failing nev ask one of the other lads who seem to get their tanks to thrive with sticks to do the same :)
Or be like me carry on getting frustrated or stick with lps and softies less stress ,plus just as nice :)

sorry to hear this Ged, could it possibly be stray voltage?

Failing that I would blame the angel too, my golden angel is on its best behaviour now see how long it lasts though haha

I know the feeling Ged. Banged my head against the wall so many times lately im going to have to re-plaster!

Whats your temperature - not yours personally, the tanks? Is it varying alot during the day? I know now i have ati on nano im having to open window and doors as temp is rising 2°+ day.

Currently 25.1 and over the last 24 hours it has gone down to 24.4 so a swing of .6 ?

However that is off the Aquatronica, and I am not convinced it is right. On the tank is one of those stick on Thermometres and that shows the 24 and the 26 lit so to speak which to me would indicate 25 ish (although the 26 is more prominent)

I have a 300w heater on all the time, set at 26 and also a 200w heater set at 27 and the Aquatronica switching that on when it goes to 25.9 and so the AQ is constantly powering that heater on at the moment because it thinks the temp is lower.

However both heaters are not actually on or the light isn't anyway.

IMO I would check your KH WITH A hANNA I have found if you are useing a salifert test kit at 7.5 that could be 6.5 .

    Ged,

All the kit is just what you need and I'm guessing your test results are A1. I would get your water tested just in case there's something......!.....! It's a thought, you shouldn't be struggling with an ATI and MP40's
