Ok ive been promising myself that one day ill have a stable location and stable situation enough to have a tank I can be proud of... ive decided hey what the hell.... bored so lets do a tank thread. I am hoping that in the not to near future around christmas ill be upgrading again, given that i already have a RSR350 sat waiting in my garage, and ill be able to keep that as my forever until i get bored and want more tank Hysterical
I am currently running a custom built 4x22x16 high shallow custom tank, central wier, black background with full length sump in cabinet in dark wood. This tank was purchased from our late friend tiger (god rest his soul left the salty world dearly departed and decided to buy and toilet train kittens) :w00t: approx 12 months ago when he shut down.
He sold his tank as couldnt seem to break the curse of the dreaded whitespot.... and couldnt face the prospect of a wipeout for a second time (i bought his previous tank too a stunning example of a 6ft long custom tank full length rear sump redsea max style) this i used as a holding tank when i was doing my delboy things of buying selling you know how it is (qudos tyger knew his tanks and had an eye for a thing of beauty)
I upgraded the tank i built, a 2 1/2ft tall 18 wide 13 deep floating glass box to the one i have now and transferred stock and this is where i am today
I still have clyde, the common clown... left alone in the world after his partner bonnie joshed it due to the first world whitespot war in this tank and also dory.... the culprit of mass fish genocide, they are still here until this day never had WS again and dory is now a happy fat 3" fish and growing
I also have a whitspot victim of penzo that he sucessfully cleared and i took off his hands... a stunning example of deep purple tang
I have the biggest flame angel ive ever seen, the moodiest pinkspot goby ever a yellowtail tamarin wrasse and for a few more weeks until it goes to its new home to tank number 2 with penzo a really nice pink purple blushing fairy wrasse oh and a Maldivian starfish along with a few turbos redlegs and narc snails
My tank is lit by 2 gen3 pro radions (best lights ive seen by far) and reeflink as i like to mess around all the time with colours and spectrum.... also a cool toy ha
I have a handmedown gyre xf150 i refurbed purchased from merser generating a whole lot of flow set at approx 70%
In the engine room i am running a gravity fed oldschool deltec skimmer that my overflow is plumbed into so everything gets skimmed before it hits the sump. The skimmer then overflows into a filtersock to guarantee nothing i dont want too ends up in my sump
Next is a doctored BM mini reactor running bio pearls to keep in check levels and approx 20kgs of LR rubble as my scape is minimalist the large sump allows most of LR surface area to be kept out of sight.
Im running a jaecod dc1200 return set at 40% and thats about it other than a 4 channel jaecod doser that doses 2ml daily redsea ABC program.
Tank is pretty simple... glass sliders keep evaporation down... 20l atu keeps salinity stable and the rest is livestock that pictures will explain for themselves!
Expect an update on tank change around christmas time as i have lots planned for the rsr (and dont plan to change tanks for a while then ha) but other than that a tank thread gives people the chance to give me stick as much as i do them on their tank threads Hysterical and thats about the story so far missing out the boring bits of keeping marines for the last 6 or 7 years. Happy reefing :-d
