Paul has kindly invited us (TSB members) on the 15th of September at 4pm along to the Liverpool World Museum to have a private, exclusive access viewing of the aquarium and a behind the scenes look at the filtration, quarantine areas and all other areas of the aquarium normally off show to the public.

The World Museum is one of the countries oldest museums, housing exhibits from dinosaurs to ancient Eygypt. It also holds a public aquarium, and has done for many years stretching back to the 1800’s

Paul will be telling us what has been going on at the aquarium over the last year following a similar event last year, and how the coral propagation project has been going.

and if you want to you can come early and have a good look round the museum it's free. We have also secured the rights to show the conservation film, Shark Water, which will be showing all day in the museums own mini cinema.
SHARKWATER

And a chance to see whats in your tank gunge. We will set up a microscope and camera to investigate exactly what lives inside yous sand beds and tank detritus. So why not bring a sample along.

And that's not all

we may have a guest speaker and Marine Habitat will be there to write an article on the event and to give free copies of the magazine.

We will also have a host of top prizes for in the raffle.

there will be a presentation of everyone's tanks (power point) so if people would like their tank to be part of that they should PM Paul

and there's more

Afterwards we will be walking to a nearby drinking hostel to partake is good informative chat over some falling down water (and hopefully non will get spilt funky)

and there's even more

For the ones that are left we will be partaking in solid refreshment and most likely some more falling down water as well before finding a bed for the night (morning)

New agenda fort the meet

We will have three speakers.

Paul will be doing an Introduction and brief update as to whats been going on in the museum
Ben Woodward from Fishkeeping.eu (
Home | Fishkeeping.EU). Title to be confirmed
TMC - From Reef to Retail Talk.

Each talk will last 15-20 and we will allow 15 min at the end for questions.

So our day will be...

10am - Museum Open to the public.
1pm - 3pm. - Aquarium accepting coral frags etc. Please come to the aquarium and make yourself known to a member of staff.
11am & 1pm - Showing of Shark Water in the Treasure House Theatre. Free Tickets required from the front desk. (open to public)
3.45pm - 5.15pm Talks in Treasure House Theatre. Tickets to be obtained from the front desk (exclusive to Salty Box members).
5pm - 6.30pm - Exclusive aces to the aquarium including behind the scenes. (Tickets to be e-mailed to all atendees)
6.30 - Drinking - Dr Duncan

if you would like to attend please e-mail me [email protected] and inc user name
and I will add you to the list and keep your eye on this thread for more information of the speakers and prizes coming soon.

The event last year started as a request for coral frag donations, the government funded charity has experienced severe cuts in the recent government cut backs, and is now asking for your help once more. Please read on to find out more.

Neil

Hi All,

Yes its that time again where I invite you all to the museum and try to scrounge some freebies from you all.

No, actually this year isnt really about the donations which is why its secondary to the main post from Neil.

Last year we asked for prety much anything but this year is a bit more selective. I would be very greatful for donations of coral frags of the following...

Soft corals, particularly larger branching forms.
Xenia (yes I know, ours all got stung by aips!!!)
Mushrooms
Green Star Polyp

Plating Montipora
Table Acropora (unlikely but I thougght Id ask)
Hystrix
Pocillipora
Stylophora (particularly pink!)

We are also always happy to have small amounts fo mature sand or rock rubble to increase the diversity of fauna in the system (but not from systems that have had recent disease, aiptasia etc etc) and I would love some CUC so if you could spare a snail or shrimp or anything like that we would be very grateful. The main system has no CUC at all so I really need ot build up a good base of critters.

I specifically dont want, zoas (too small to make an impact)

Anything with an aiptasia anywhere near it!!!!

As I said this is not the main point of the trip this year so please dont feel like you cant comne if you dont have any frgas but as times are hard and with cut backs every little helps. Anyone who can help please see the link here.

Really sorry that I will not be able to make it, just a bit to far for me to travel.
You all are going to have a great time, and take loads of pictures.
Cheers
