I have a custom build tank sumped, which capacity wise comes out at aroumd 293L, I'm guessing with substrate and rock that'll be closer to 270L? I can't recall weight wise how much rock I put in so that has to be an estimate.

Due to various reasons I've been struggling to schedule and do the changes so have been doing 60L every 2-3 weeks which hasn't been ideal.

I'm torn between the AWC28 model and the AWC53.

I don't want to be costing myself 51-53 litres of salted water a week so would use the larger unit every 2 weeks. The smaller one I'd use weekly but I'm not sure I'd be hitting the golden weekly 10% rule with that?

Anyone with experience of the AWC units in a similar sized setup? Recall there being a fair number of 270-300L setups kicking around?

    Yes I do indeed,
I have the awc 53 for a 500 litre tank,
If it was my choice I would go for the awc 28, and do it weekly, it’s not a million miles of 10% and smaller and lighter than the 53. Also imo more frequent (weekly) smaller changes offer more stability than larger (fortnightly) changes.
Whichever one you go for they make water changes easy and much less of a chore, without a doubt one of the best bits of kit I’ve bought for my tank.

the 10% guide is exactly that - a guide
on a survey I did a few years ago I found people where doing an average of between 5 and 20% weekly or fortnightly so my thoughts on this are what works for you is fine and so long as that water change happens whatever the % thats what matters - not a believer in no water changes but once again if it works for you then thats what matters
