I have just bought a new aquarium and purchased all the equipment to set up a marine set up..when the tank was delivered it had a weir which we were not told about. the weir is approx 8 inches by 3 inches ..

We purchased our own Reverse Osmosis unit and have started to make the water for the tank, however my partner is of the opinion that there is no need to install the external filter until the water level is approaching the Weir, but i am concerned that it should be install now, the tank is large 5ft x 2ft x 18 inches.

    Any advise would be welcome

Weirs normally Are sealed but don’t need to be

As the water will still flow down the pipes

Personally I would connect every thing and test for water leaks prior to filling
