Who is invited?

Absolutely every single Salty Box Member.

Why is this event taking place?

Quite simply because the World Museum Aquarium, appealed for some frags for their new project. So we decided to make it a day out, so that our members and the Museum benefit from each other.

Do I have to bring a frag?

No, but if it would be most appreciated if you could do so. If you genuinely do not have any corals to frag, why not buy one off a fellow reefer, or a LFS and then bring that?

This is our chance as a bunch of reefers, to help out a Museum on their project, as well as being a part of their new display for the enjoyment of millions of others over the coming years.

Please bring a LPS / SPS / Softie frag for the Museum as a donation, if at all possible, but it is not a condition of entry, everyone is still welcome.

The whole idea is for the Museum to accept frags off us as a donation to help stock their new project. See this thread for further information. I must stress, to come on this day out, you do not have to donate anything, it's more a case of, if we can as a forum, give the Museum as many different frags as possible, at no charge, in exchange for all of their effort, accommodating us for the day itself.
The Museum will be putting a plaque up acknowledging the contribution of Salty Box, plus any individuals who have donated frags. With a million visitors a year a lot of people will see your corals and your name!

Times and Dates:
Date this will be happening: Friday 15th July

 • 10am - Museum Opens.
 • 2pm- 4pm - Aquarium accepting coral and mud/sand donations.
 • 4pm. Aquarium closed to everyone. Please leave the aquarium at this point so we can clear the room and set up.
 • 4.10pm. Main evening event starts. Talk, raffle, behind the scenes tour etc. Aquarium will be closed to the public and will be exclusively for SB members only (and their family if they are on the list).
 • 6.15pm - Evening Event ends. All members must vacate museum by 6.30pm
 • 6.45pm til late - Social in local pub (details to be confirmed)

What will The Day Involve

We are a small public aquarium within a very large museum. The aquarium has two systems accros 21 tanks with a total volume of around 80,000lt. Half is temperate local species, and half is tropical. The tropical section has two "reef Displays" and a mangrove set up. At the moment though all the "corals" are fake and this is obviously where the donations come in.

The museum itself is great with a bughouse, planatarium, natural history, dinosaurs and ancient peoples (Egypt, Greece, Rome). All of which will be open and freely accesible to the group.

We will be accepting coral frags during the day.

From 4pm onwards the aquarium will be closed off to the public and will be for the exclusive use of Salty Box members.
The senior curator, Paul, will be presenting a short talk. This is your opportunity to find out more about public aquariums. Paul would like you guys to direct the content of his talk. Please post any comments on this forum of questions you would like answered, or things you would like to know. Nothing is off limits so feel free and be creative.

Finally, following the event there will be a social and a room has been reserved in a local bar for SaltyBox members.
We also have some great raffle prizes from some of our sponsors. All attendees will be entered into the raffle free of charge.
Each member attending will also receive a free copy of the latest Marine Habitat Magazine.

If you want to go, then please put your name down and the first 40 are on day 1 etc - First come first served and all that. We have 100 places available so get your name down. Just add your name on a comment and we will add you to the list.
