Ok before I get the pee took out of me for this one, I'm only thinking about Pearls OK!!!!
It's come to the time when I'm going to have to spend money on some new Zeo products and after going round to Dave's (Hellers) last night and seeing how much better his SPS colours have got, the pearl thing has got me thinking, do I spend my money on Zeo again or for a little bit more buy pearls?

Now If I go down the Pearl route would it be OK to use my Zeo reactor for them? and how much should I use, as reading though several posts there seems to be quite a difference in how much people are using.

Back to the reactor, presuming that I can use it. It is placed in the 3rd compatment in the sump, which is the one after the skimmer. Question on this is I'm led to believe that the reactor should be before the skimmer, but would it be OK to have the outlet from the reactor going back to the skimmer compartment and would this work?

Any pointers would be helpfull, so that I can make an informed descision about my next purchase

    Cheers
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
You will need 100 - 150 ml per 100 lt of water, and you need the return as close to the skimmer inlet. If you can get the pearls to fluidised correctly in that reactor, then yes it should work.
    Cheers
    Pete

Can't see a reason why they shouldnt fluidise as it's pretty much the same as any other sort of reactor, flow coming in from the bottom and out near the top. Might just have to turn the pump up a bit to get the desired effect but I'm pretty sure other members have adapted the Zeo reactor to take pearls.

It all depends on the inlet tube in the reactor, if it's too small you end up with difficulty getting the Pearls to move.

i found the zeo reactor pipework too small, making its own restrictions to flow

i have my return from pearls going back ito the baffle prior to skimmer

    Nev.
I thought having a small bore with a large pump would help with fluidising the pearls as surly it would create a higher water pressure entering the reator? I was thinking of maybe using a spare aquabee 2000 that I have lying around Correct me if I'm wrong on this one

Steve, the law of physics will not work that way. You could put a 100,000 lt pump on a small pipe and still not get any more movement, volume is the key.

So IF I do decide to down the pearl route then it's a new reactor.

100 / 150ml Pearls per 100 litres of tank mate

    1 ltr reactor is £58.00
    2 ltr reactor £68.00
    3 ltr reactor £78.00

Plus £15 postage iirc - Just incase Pete doesn't see this, Steve
