Just a few more recent pictures. I need to learn something about corals and other fish, because I'd really like to add more colour.

This weekend I added two more fish. A dot dash Blenny and a little Royal Gramma. The Blenny has settled in well, loving the Rock and its caves and crevices.
The Royal Gramma was hiding in a tiny cave for the first day and now I can't find it at all! No sign of her even at feeding time. I hope she reappears.

Spotted her last night. She is alive, and wedged into most unbelievably small crevice. On the plus side it isn't the same crevice as she was in after day 1; so at least she has moved. It is actually SMALLER though!
Day 4 today. Let's see if she ventures out.

My tank is coming along.

The little Royal Grammar is alive and well. I think the six line wrasse is rushing up to her whenever he spots her though, which is making her nervous. I'm not sure if he would harm her... but as she runs he chases! She comes out for food, but spends most of her time in cracks and crevices in the rock. Her and the dot dash blenny had a little spat yesterday eveing over a particular hole! The blenny won.

At the weekend by chance someone local was selling a nice RBTA, and I coudn't resist. I know I should have waited.. but I didn't. It came with a nice bit of mushroom covered live rock. I got it on Sunday, and so far it is opening up nicely.

I did some water tests last night:

Ammonia 0 (well actually <0.25, whichis the lowest on the kit)
Nitrate 0
Phos 0.1 (that has really come down from the 0.5 I was getting before. A testiment to the algae reduction)
KH 9
Calcium 340

I tried to test for Mag, but the test didn't change colour at all. I will do it again at the weekend in the daylight.

So I think my kh is ok, but Calcium is low? Can anyone recommend the best way to address this? I have a red monti plate frag in my tank that someone gave me and it hasn't done very well. Would this be related? I'd like to improve my water.

On another note, can you see the green algae on the sand behind the rocks? Is this anything to worry about? I think it is in an area that doesn't get much water flow.

If you are having problems with testing mag I would recommend Red Sea foundation test kit. Includes tests for cal, alk and mag and is easy to use and read.

Low cal, mag and/or alk can affect corals. I have had problems with plating montis and cannot keep purple but have an orange and red that are doing ok.

Thank you Fishpalace. I have looked at those in a lfs. They seemed expensive... But if they are good and easy to read I will get one and try it out. I do find the colour charts tricky!

Cal/mag/alk redsea are relatively easy to read sand,I'm sure you'll be ok .. It's potassium, iron, iodine that are difficult and fiddly

I fhink you get over 50 tests in each so if it lasts a year and helps control these parameters that is money well spent, IMO. Cost of 1 decent coral.

How about Phos? Is there a test kit that you would recommend for this?
Hanna checker?

Mine was somewhere between the 0.03 and the 0.1 I think.

So all going well. Last night the clowns were really concentrating on the anemone... But didn't actually go into it... And returned to their usual corner of the tank to sleep. They showed an awful lot of interest though and the female in particular was behaving very oddly... Almost like she was drunk! Hopefully they will host it.

I've now ordered a reactor and some rowaphos. I'm starting to feel like a real reefer!!!

Looks good mate , got a rbta on order myself for next week when ready , looks like your clowns are trying the nem out , I've heard that they will nibble ends of tentacles as a starter to hosting , don't know if that's true or not , one tip someone told me sorry forgot who it was but he said to put nylon stocking over your powerheads just in case rbta goes for walkabout , prevents it getting sucked in apparently

OMG really? This guys hasn't moved at all. Although I did notice my Blenny stuck his head in the fans to get some algae last time I fed them. I was worried the fans would come back on and chop his head off!

Mine was somewhere between the 0.03 and the 0.1 I think.

ELOs high res but not cheap at £35 but the best IMO. I have tried salifert and Red Sea and decided to sell Hanna checker as just liked ease of use and easy to read.
