OMG so bored I have actually done some water testing. Yes you read it right I've tested my water.

This is in the middle of my fortnightly 20% water changes so gave a good idea on the doser amounts being good or bad.

SG - 1.025 @ temp of 26C

Calcium 450ppm

KH 7.3

PH 8

Mag 1290

Ammonia <0.25

Nitrate 0

Phos colour was between the 0.16 + 0.36 colours on the D&D Test kit.

So for all you boffins out there does this seem rather good on my minimalistic approach to maintenance ?

Dude, stop claiming benefits and get a job!! :-d.....seriously though, are you on annual leave or something, with all this time to play with your Little Chemist set?!.....and whats with thanking Chris all the time; does he sponsor your tank or are you after freebies or something!?! Hysterical...........those params seem fine; just like the ones I never test....all I know is that I have no Ammonia and Calcium is 425ppm

Currently on holiday from Uni though I've never claimed benefits in my life mate as always worked.

I had a minor tank problem a few weeks ago when some coraline turned to a brown mush and peeled off the tank glass in lumps. Some of these gooey lumps stuck to SPS and they stripped around the affected area. Rather than test I just asked Chris, as usual, and he said start with changing Rowa/Carbon and do some tests. Changed Rowa/Carbon, things started clearing so didn't test Popped to collect my emeralds from him yesterday and he gave me ear ache for not doing them so I did. At least I know things are ok ish now I've bothered my arse to do some

Only too half an hour so not too bad. Might do some more in a few weeks

What reading are you getting for Po4?

Are you having issue with nuisance algaes? If everythings ok then its probably balanced. For an sps reef though folk would say below 0.03ppm

Yeah some say 0 and some say a little doesn't hurt but not tested in nearly a year so no idea where I was.

Using the D&D Phosphate PO4 the water colour was a green between 0.08 & 0.16 which appears high. I did have some sort of issue a couple of weeks ago when my coraline algae turned into a brown like slime and fell off everything and stuck to my SPS. Where it stuck the SPS had died after I removed it all a couple of days later.

Changed all my carbon & rowa but not testing before doesn't let me know if it was previously high and now coming down or if there's another problem.

Guess I need to check my Phos every few days just to see what it's doing

The stuff that partially stripped doesn't look too happy

I'll retest my Phos level at the weekend before my water change to see if things have changed.

Phosphates would normally brown corals out not strip them so I would bet thats not the problem

Mine were 0.27 with no issues and nevs are 1.43 at last test

It was the coraline on the back glass that browned, jellied up and then came off in clumps that stuck to the corals. Where the brown goo stuck the coral died off.

Stupid snail has been doing this all week. I remove him, drop him over the other side of the tank and there he is the next day

Well I've finally managed a full body shot of my pistol shrimp after all this time. Took the death of a snail to get it but hey ho these things happen.

One of my "People" images cropped up on another forum under someone else's name. Once I proved the image was mine the Mods banned the guy but suggested using my forum name which doesn't stop it happening but should stop the "Oh sorry didn't realise" routine. It's kind of flattering when someone uses your image but also annoying when they try and claim it as their own.

If it's still alive Simon I may just do that
