Our Red Sea Reefer 350

It's major overkill if I'm honest. I have it turned down to 3 or 4 lights now.

Yes, I think we've decided on the 3000 D&D....

We're also going to order the Gyre 130 Maxpect and will upgrade our razr to 120 degree lenses.

The burning question is do we need live sand or seed it ourselves.....which brings me onto the question of whether the Grye will blow sand all over the tank?

My 150 has done this since I cleaned it and adjusted the blades. It hasn't done it for last few months so think I just need to tweet the direction slightly.

I am running a Curve 5 skimmer and a Eheim 3000 LPH Return which seems to be doing ok Also got a reactor with bio pearls and small led in the sump that grows the chaeto quite well.

I have a jecod 6000 on a 450 running at 70% and works well so would recommend.

If I was to replace it I would go with the new ecotech pump but that is OTT price wise but would hook up nicely with mp40 and radion LED's but I luv a bit of kit.

I think we're going with the D&D - our LFS uses these on all their tanks and it is drastically cheaper. Watch this space LOL!

Here are some piccies of our RSM 130d and then of the Bubble Curve 5 skimmer in the curing bucket in the garage! We set-up the skimmer on Monday.

So, after all that, we decided to get the Jecod!pump.jpg

and the Gyre water movementGyre.jpg

We also got an Aquaray tile and brackets to go on our RSM 130d whilst we run the two tanks, the idea being the Aquaray will then go over the Refugium for the cheato.

You have been busy! I think the jeocod is the better option. Saves money, silent and you have a better controller.

What is the thinking behind using pellets? Seems to be a resurgence of people using them recently.

The answer is easy. It's called emptying your wallet/purse faster than the bubbles in our new skimmer!

Seriously though...We recently had high phosphates in the 130 & discovered the amazing rowaphos magic. Took them down within days.

Never had a sump before so it might be overkill?

Hahah I know the feeling.

I'm a big fan of rowa (or equivalent) and I run them periodically when I see a rise in phos.

You may or may not know but I'm anti - bio pellets. I had the same reactor for them and it works well apart from the fact it wasn't rated high enough for the pellets I was using! I just cranked it up and had not problems with flow. The pellets are uncontrollable, though effective which caused me a massive coral wipeout. So I'd never recommend them but I know several seem to have good results with them.

Are you thinking of running rowa or pellets in that reactor?

Ah, now I don't know what you mean by pellets? Our thoughts were rowaphos and maybe carbon?

Tone has just said he thinks there is a pack of "pellets" in the reactor box. What are they supposed to be for ?

Forgot to say, we also had our Razr lenses changed from 90 to 120 degrees to help eradicate any dark edges on the 4 footer. We've kept the 90 degree ones in case we need more direct light on a specific area.
