My tiny sweetcorn sized box fish looked a bit dusty last week, he seemed to get over it and was back to normal.

Yesterday he was in the bottom corner of the tank again looking all covered in white. This morning he was in the corner again, then was stuck up against the weir comb, I'm assuming dead.

I took my daughter to school came back with the intention of moving it but it was gone.

Only sign of the Kole tang was he was behind a rock at the back of the tank and he seemingly has been there all day. I came home from work and put some brine shrimp and garlic in, he came out darted around and ate a small amount then went back behind the rock on the bottom where he is now.

When he was out he looked worse for wares, was very pale and his fins weren't out as usual.

Puffer, Cardinal and two clowns all seem OK.

The only one other thing was last night under the aquarays one of the clowns looked like he was a bit spotty perhaps a few areas of white dust - today he looks fine, will tell for sure under the blues later.

Only thing I've added was a UV unit at the weekend. All tests are OK and shown below.

Not sure what to do, just leave it? If the tang dies do I fish it out or leave it to erm rot??

    Thanks,

    Larry.

It was only small Jay at that size it would pose no risk tbh.

Sounds like WS mate as we said a few weeks back.

Keep feeding and add some ozone if you can.

    Cheers Chris,

I just popped in another bit of food and he came out did a mad circuit then went back under the rock.

He looked very, well almost malnourished - he looked in tip top condition not 24 hours ago.

sorry to hear about your loses.

even a small fish can release enough toxin to effect other fish. carbon and water changes i'd recommend.

don't know why places like abyss sell these floating heads...nothing but trouble.

if the fish aren't behaving normally, and you can see evidence of ws, NOW is the time to take them out and copper treat them.

Re: Lost my box fish, think I'm losing my Kole Tang

have they been startled at all?

Ive lost boxfish before upon being startled.

The white substance is usually a mucus.

They dont ALWAYS release upon death. Ive lost a cowfish before now and like yours, I found it in a mucus but Its usually stressed that theyll release toxins.

Sorry can't be of more help Larry :(

feed lots and often mate. Get some nori in there for him too, chop it up and add it like flake if he won't eat the sheet. Also keep your hands out.

Just had a good look at the Kole, shows no signs of spots etc.

The new clown I got looks like it "may" have Ich but tbh that could just be a bit of "bits" from when I just turned the powerheads on and off and it stirred up a bit of stuff.

Id try not to worry too much for now Larry,

Theres not a great deal you can do tonight now unfortunately.

If It was me (And Im not saying this is right or wrong) because I know everyone has a different opinion now on QT fish right away etc. I think sometimes trying to get fish out of tanks makes matters worse in regards to ich etc, particularly tangs. Id turn the lights down for the night and try to keep an eye on them (Red lights if you have them?)

Tomorrow you can have a good look at them and if need be, slowly start trying to fish him out

    Cheers Kev,

If I did have to get him out I can see it would be a major battle to do so.

I'll just keep my fingers x'd.

Every fish is always a nuisance to get out :)

fingers crossed Larry! Im sure he'll be fine!

My Kole can have days when she looks in certain lights to have speckles of whitespot but then in other lights, nothing at all.

If their feeding and lively enough then Id try to refrain from QT them

Re: Lost my box fish, think I'm losing my Kole Tang

i agree with kev, if the fish aren't eating or are behaving funny then they've got to be treated.

the tang could be affected at the moment by the toxins, but if it's still not acting normal tomorrow then bite the bullet matey.

easier said then done i know, but if you leave it until the fish are too bad then qt'ing them is pointless.

don't chase the fish around the tank with nets though, partition the tank (if possible) then remove all the rock and stuff.

All the fish (exception of tang) are feeding fine and acting quite normal, just the tang that seems to be in a bad way.

IMO you need to be really careful Larry. Whitespot wipped my Lido out in 4 days. One fish starts then the others follow.

Disapearing act is the first sign something is up.

If you need owt give me a bell.
