I've decided to start a new tank thread even though it's still my old tank, I'm sort of being reborn after a "rollercoaster ride of emotions" the primary cause being an 18 month battle with Xenia that is now over. I'm going to try and make this a warts and all diary focusing on the lows rather than the highs (primarily because I haven't got any stunning corals etc and secondary because it might be more helpful to others). So expect photos containing a variety of algae, runaway phosphate levels, high salinity and if you're really lucky a Youtube video of Barbara going ballistic as the skimmer cup has overflowed causing swells to the laminate. Won't bore anyone with the history, suffice to say that I was the proud owner of a tank full to the brim of Xenia for about 18 months until I nuked the lot with half a fluke tab.. what followed wasn't entirely pretty (although one house visitor commented "that bright purple fluffy thing over the rocks is stunning") and I'm still dealing with the fallout, but feeling a lot better now the Xenia is behind me. Attached, for the record is the tank just prior to the xenia explosion.
