Lowered basket close to the bottom of the tank on Friday to allow the anemone and clowns to roam free and the clowns clearly like the anemone and the basket! as they are happy to stay put for the time being. Clowns go off to explore but soon come back to the anemone, I'd rather it made its own way out of the basket than me interfering so happy to wait. 2 weeks seemed to have done the trick anyway, and all appear happy. Will put up an updated pic this week, but just done a quick video of my refugium while I was topping up the RO water container as it appears to have exploded with life!! Critters everywhere! And some baby shrimps by the looks of it!!

A couple of times in the past few weeks I've herd the odd splash at night, then one night I found the cause! Turned out my flame scooter blenny has been trying to leap out of tank!! So I fitted this mesh cover kit I found at my LFS, it's actually quite good, lightweight, and doesn't block the light. Decided to mod it so my auto feeder dropped food into and underwater as before it was frequently floating on surface shortly before vanishing down the overflow.

Tank is coming along, placed the new frags, even had an accident and dropped my tweezers breaking a growing tip off one of the corals, so stuck it on a plug, will see how it does then sell it I think.

Sea hare also went back to LFS today, as he done his job well with the GHA so rather him starve I took him back and got some store credit. Other than that things are ticking along.

Well busy weekend for me but had time to do some fiddling with stuff on the tank side. 1st improvement was to add an extra capacity bottle to my skimmer as working away for a week and my wife hates emptying the smeggy cup.

2nd, I decided to make a beefed up version of my auto water changer, as the prototype I threw together worked.
5d7e5432f555de2252ce887673cfbc9d.jpg

So to make it more usable I wanted it to do 3 things:
1) larger volume (prototype was 20 litres so about a 5% dilution)
2) heat the water
3) more vigorous mixing when making salt mixture up. (Was purchasing pre-mixed and warm salt water from LFS, and want to mix my own to control what KH, Mg and Ca levels so going with Red-Sea coral Pro salt)

So larger drum used was a water keg about 60 litres giving me approximately 20% dilution. purchased a cheep water pump of the bay and had an unused powerhead, small heater and some other minor bits to complete my build kicking about.

The end result I'm quite happy with for a Saturday night tinker in the shed.

As you can see inside has the main pump, heater and mixing pump. I took the pics while I was getting it ready for its first tank test today. Water had been warming over night while I had it turned on.

I added the salt and the extra powerhead certainly did a good job of mixing.

And just for good measure I also used the main pump to help the mixing.

So once salt mixed, tested water to make sure it was as close to tank levels, added some carbon and floss to the return cup to capture any bits as well as bit of water polishing. attached the water changers tank pipes, Eheim quick connectors made this all nice and simple. Turned it on adjusted the output flow so not squirting water in too quickly and away we go! That was about an hour ago, tank all good no changes to water levels so no wet floor, and no disruption to tank inhabitants. Will probably leave it on for another hour before disconnecting it but so far so good.

PODS!!!!!!!!

been growing these little things for about a month, well when I say grown I basically just put some old water after a water change in a tub with a few packs of pods from my LFS and some cheato and just left them to it. Been checking on them weekly and harvesting some to put in display tank and fuge, but thought I'd share some pics. My wife's mandarin will be a happy little fishy tonight [emoji38]

Well the time has come, My desjardini sailfin tang is looking for a new home as he is starting to get to a size where I think he will need to be in a bigger tank than my AR275 soon. Size approx 2.5-3 inches, lovely example and very inquisitive fish very greedy and eats Nori, frozen mysis, brine shrimp well pretty much anything really live or frozen lol.

Looking at catching him this weekend as my fish trap has now arrived so needs homing ASAP, I can take him to my LFS for store credit but would rather he went to a more permanent home.

Just watched the coral crab which usually sits happily in the seriatopora coral minding its own business grab the dragon wrasse as it swam past and take it under the rock work!! Tried as quick as I could to get the mesh lid off and intercept, but once it was under there was nothing I could do as the rock wall is fixed solid from bottom up with putty. Without some drastic deconstruction risking both other fish and corals I had to concede defeat. :( bit gutted as was an interesting fish to watch, but that's the day in the life of a reef tank I guess.
