Insufficient nutrition for hermit crabs?

I found a gorilla crab in mine that killed my dwarf hermits. Are you sure if you added the CUC so soon part of the cycle may have damaged and killed them.

I dunno… they seemed fine for several weeks. On the upside, they're cheap enough that I can bung some more in and see what happens.

I always feed extra for my CUC so they have food also. Minute food hits the water snails are out and seaserpant star.

What extra food specifically do you put in for them?

I have pellets and also just a bit of extra frozen food. Mysis ect. I feed a few types of frozen food through the week and also algae flakes and normal marine flakes and pellets.

Thanks. I've ben warned away from flake food because of the risk of excess food decomposing and messing up the biological cycle…

As long as you don't overfeed on flake it is fine. Mine eat it all within a minute or less. Small amount remove anything not eaten after a few minutes. Also snails will eat it.

What are the benefits of flake relative to, say, frozen and/or pellets?
