    So struggling with elevated nitrates
So added another litre of bio pellets
And removed gfo altogether as it gets everywhere
And my filter floss ends up real dark brown
So have changed to Seachems phosguard which is aluminium based
Really surprised how little of it you need to use

Will be interested to see how you get on with the phosguard Jim, i have never used anything other than rowaphos and as you say can get very messy sometimes.
Have you ever given any thought to using miracle mud? I’ve used it for years and although not heavily stocked I do feed quite a lot and never had any issues with nitrate.

im exploring the options at ther moment
had never really thought of the pump failing and they bacteria dying off
hope it doesnt take the full 6 weeks to recover

my sand is practically brown and it drives me mad
hoping it is just the gfo

Phosphates appear ok after the change over to Seachem
Hoping it leads to a cleaner sand bed

Nitrates are still around 25 thought
Though hoping the pellets kick in soon though allegedly they take 6 weeks
So fingers crossed it starts to come down soon
