The diatoms will most likely be caused by the rock to added. P04 leaching can take months, as the P04 is leaching out the corals and filtration will partly take it away, therefore the remainder will build up and cause algae of some type.
There are many strains of algae which will consume P04 at different rates- GHA for example scoffs it up and in our systems after the GHA we generally get an out break of another algae as there is not enough P04 to support the GHA but enough to support the lesser strain.

Purfic sense . Am dosing agent green to keep Po4 down to almost zero at present.
