Hi mate, just catching up with your thread. So you're dismantling, well I just think its exciting to be starting something new, especially given how frustrated you have been with this stuff.

I just wanted to check though at what sort of level of Mag did you notice the colours going pale. As you know our mag went quite high (no where near 2200!!!). It killed off the cheato and in one tank some of the colours have faded. I think its the bulbs to be honest as its only in one tank on the system but my mag may not be helping.

Also, Im looking at setting up a deal with tank tests to use their liquid phosphate remover on the large system. I seem to remember reading somewhere that you used it. Did you carry on with it, did it work?

Re: Durky's Vision 260 (Now Skimmerless!) - Black is back!

Again just flicking back through your thread. Did you maintain nitrate at this level? And did it improves things.

Ive heard varying oppinions in the industry with some people advocating as low as possible and others saying nitrate is less improtant and 5ppm will be fine, its the phosphates that are more important and should be as low as possible and preferably below 0.03.

The main reason I ask is that our main system which we installed the large DSB now has nitrates runnins at around 4/5 and Im am undecided whether to try and reduce them further or just leave it be.

solid 0 on phos and no3 is not a good idea and proof is in the pudding and my tank was starving itself to death, ive been adding reef energy for 3 weeks and ive seen many improvments already

What are your phos and NO3 levels since using reef energy?

Hi Paul. I noticed colours start to look washed out around the 2000 mark and by 2200 they had nearly total washed out, at this point I also noticed the cheato turning brown and white in places which I presume was it dying back.

I have used the TT stuff in the past but not on this tank. I have never used it long term either tbh to comment.

Personally I would keep it around 5ppm. I was always lucky with this tank and both levels were always well under control. My po4 always ran at zero and nitrate certainly never higher than 5ppm. I think without adding reef energy the nitrate would of fallen away to zero as well.

Paul, it's still at zero but the corals are getting some aminos from the. Energy now. I have also stopped skimming all day and only skimm for eight hours per day.
