Diy Aio 140 L Tank

Hi,

I bought my first tank, an Interpet Fish Pod 120, a couple of years ago with the intention of keeping it FOWLR. Worked great for me, but then I decided that I want corals as well. I shopped around for a new tank, but they were too expensive for me. So, I thought I could give it a try and build my own reef tank.

I bought a low iron glass tank from the internet for a reasonable price. With 80 cm of length I had enough space for an integrated sump. So I sacrificed about 1/5 of the length and I came up with this sump/refugium design.

couple of things

would want a mechanical filter first such as a sock or floss

if you were using the sand as a deep bed filter ensure everything above can be removed as sometimes they need replacing

I'm not sure I'll use sand in the sump at all.
I'm building a media basket at the moment, which will be placed in the first compartment. The one on the right side. It will contain live rock rumble and floss.
I guess that would make my life easier.

Also, I siliconed the weir comb and then installed the outlet.

Edit: Actually I siliconed the weir comb before I added the baffles.

Thanks Jim!

Then I installed the pump, a Sicce Syncra 1.5, the heater, a Visitherm 150W, a full spectrum LED lamp for the refugium

and a NICREW LED light for the main tank.

Finally, I added 6 kilos of Caribsea Life Rock and 9 kilos of Caribsea Arag-Alive Oolite Sand and after a few days I added the livestock, 1 pair of Clownfish, 1 Royal Gramma, 1 Mythrax crab, 1 Cleaner shrimp, 2 Hermit crabs, 1 Nassarius snail and half a dozen small Trochus snails.

Thanks doug_amanda!
I'll post more photos of the filter media basket as soon as I finish it. Stay tuned. :)
