Big Thumbs UpAt last I have my new tank up and running

I have chosen to go down the ECO system route using biology rather than technology

    New System

    Tank 64" x 24" x 30" two corner weirs with dorso pipes
    Sump 54" x 20" x 20" 4 compartments
    1 Course coral sand
    2 Miracle Mud
    3 Filter Wool
4 Return pumps 2 x Ehime 1260 and auto top up

I do have room for a CA reactor later

    Lighting has been transferred from the existing tank 3 x 150 W MH 14,000 Arcadia bulbs 4 x 18 w actinic 2 x 24 w actinic

    so pics then

Old Tank which was getting crowded, running for 7 years with canister filters which had to be moved

    Space for the new fish

Had to decorate  and make sure it fits the space

pre position for pipes and water testing

make sure the new fish fit """Birthday Present"""

    add pipes

prepare plinths, decided to go with 4" because want a deep sand bed
[IMG] i will be using a DSB in the tank

here you can see the return pipe, the idea is to keep the live rock clean
    [IMG]

    taking shape

Pre fill with tap water testing for leaks, expect it will be around 1250 KG, so need to look at the floor

prepare the twin pumps and try to reduce noise up front still not happy with this

dorso drain pipe , holes were later added to the top 2 mm diameter 3 on the RHS and 2 LHS to reduce noise, that worked

the long fill for testing pipes and tank

Dorso's self primed, these pipes were extended to 2" off the base later to reduce gurgling noise from
    the return pipes

this takes ages, so did the draining prior to filling with Salted RO

sump three weeks later, RHS is 20KG coarse sand form the returns to flow into Aerobic area
centre has Miracle mud and cheato for nitrate and phosphate removal
    [IMG]

    Sump LHS

On the left auto top up, then return area 2 x Ehine 1260's rhs filter wool for de gassing and debris removal
I may add some more course coral sand here this will be an extra 20KG

    tank shots

did i break the rules well yes

DSB in the main tank "not recommended with a mud based system"
Bio Balls , not for me used course sand for the first chamber

started the DSB off with sand from the old tank, did the same for the mud

after 1 week the Nitrate was 10 Phosphate 1 so started Vodka 10 ml per day
after 3 weeks Nitrate is 0 phosphate 0
so have reduced to 5 ML Vodka per day to see what happens, shall be testing again on Sunday

Cheato and (algae just what appeared) in the sump are growing well

    fingers crossed
