Black layer on top of sand

    Hi have had for the last few days a black layer on my sand. Is this just a diotom mat or something else? how is this caused and what are the solutions to get rid......(my tank is about 8-10 weeks mature - if that also helps)

    Its pretty common, I think its just a collection of "gunk"- algae, bits of rock and dirt.

    A sand sifting creature will help- I use a few pink lipped conches.

    Chalk gobies are also good, but can struggle to get enough food.
