I want to start growing my own pods and wondered which is the best starter kit to get?
    Thanks

Agree, a sandwich box with an air stone does the trick.

+1 on the above. Don't bother with a kit, I've only ever bought 1 lot, and then just grown then on from there.

I cut the top off a 4 pint milk carton and used that with an airstone in.

Obviously I washed the carton first and bred tons of the things :-d

Thanks :) think I'll try that. How often do you need to change the water? And how do you change the water without sucking up the pods?

Also can you do rotifiers in same culture as the pods?

I think the recommendation is you don't mix rotifers with pods, but can't remember why:(
I don't change the water often at all. If you notice a reduction of pod numbers, change the water. I simply transplant some pods to a fresh container instead of a water change and just harvest tye remainder. I didn't have a sieve, although this would be useful, I just used a large syringe.

I've seen some people just put them in a pop bottle on window sill with no air pump, does this work or does it have risks?

This still works, I have heard of some people saying there's aways crashed if the used an air pump. I think it is best doing roti's and pods together.

i use any container including a small tank a plastic bucket and one of those plastic things you keep under the bed with stuff in. They reckon just put an airline in with no stone, i got 4 going at the mo off one air pump with t pieces and i just fold the end over on the hose and put a cable tie round it and just put a small hole in the pipe so a small stream of bubbles come out. Where about in Brum are you steve i could give you some to start you off.
