So with my tank on order I best start a tank thread. It's a sumped 2 foot cube. The back wall is drilled for the overflow pipework. I decided against a weir due to it taking up space and I think it takes away from the cubeness of it.

The tank won't be set up until may as I'm moving into my own place then. Luckily my current tank is at my parents so I can let the new tank cycle before transferring my stock bit by bit. So I've plenty time to get equipment and build a stand.

Im going to go for a DSB and some sort of algae to control nutrients. The plan at the moment is to go skimmer less. Mainly due to budget reasons (which I have been given by swmbo). Plus after seeing to display tank at abyss running skimmer less has given me more confidence. Stocking will also be slow.

As for light I'm not sure yet. Might go for a iquacts series 2 thingy. Or maybe stretch to LEDs. I'm also keeping my eye out for secondhand equipment.

So, so far I've a tank on order and a half built cabinet, long way to go lol!

piccies of frame. Big thanks to @barracuda and @bigguy for the cabinet help!

Bought some white conti board and some black cabinet paint for it today. Tried painting one of the off cuts but it wasn't a great finish. Think I need to find some black furniture board during the week or its off to ikea next weekend.

I used Ikea furniture for my cube. Painting conti board you have no chance mate! - the laminated finish will not allow paint to hold and even if you could you may need to spray it to get an even coat without streaks.

Check Ikea website before driving mate, you can get all the panels dimensions online! saves the hassle of measuring while in store too!

Thanks barra, luckily enough my boss was borrowing his mates chops saw so it made light work of it! Had the off cuts so thought the corner pieces will square it up if nothing else.

The paint managed to stick to the conti board. Very streaky tho lol. Just looked at that aquariums4life place you posted about. Got me thinking about acrylic now hmmm. Would have to see one first tho I think.

Starting to take shape now Matt, looks like that would take the weight of a 4' high 2x2.
have you a plan for the cladding yet mate.?

Once I've got the tank I'm going to put some edging around the top with about an inch over the frame, so the tank has something to sit in. Then just plywood sanded and painted I think. Furniture board was working out pretty dear tbh
