Alty's 63 x 36 x 24 build

This build actually starts just over 12 months ago when forum member Paul out his 63x36x24 tank up for sale over on the URther forum I'm sure a lot of us use. As I was planning a house extension, I bought the tank and stuck it in the shed ready for the build to start and finish. 12 months (virtually to the day) later and the tank is back out of the dark.

So, I bought a small 48 x 12 x 18 tank for the shed, transferred my stock and sold my 48 x 24 x 24.

My old tank, was only up and running for a few months...

On deciding to transfer the stock in to the shed for up to a year, I decided to sell my favourite fish, my Regal Angel

And in preparation for the big tank, I bought a load of dead live rock and started to seed it before moving my livestock over

IMG_4003.jpg

In the time waiting for my tank to be ready, and my mate selling his small tank before taking mine, I had all my stock and my mates all in the tank together

Tank gone and now all stock transferred to their temporary small home, the sump was bigger than the tank :-d

And my favourite living thing in the tank, a anemone that seemed to be just getting bigger and bigger, took a year before it finally split a month ago

The house build started in Feb this year, I won't put millions of pictures but as much as this is a reef forum, we all love a good house extension too, Steve at Burscough has heard enough about it with my frustration of not being able to buy anything!

Day one and kitchen has been halved in size!

The corner where the new tank will be situated. Had to change the planning permission to make the internal wall 1000mm rather than 300 so that the tank didn't overhang the doors.

IMG_5364.jpg

Also had the electrician put in a totally separate socket with its own feed just for the tank

Kitchen deivery!!!!!

Time for the tank move and break down of the temporary tank

And the big tank finally in place. It looks brilliant!

IMG_5481.jpg

Let the filling begin. I must say a huge thank you to Steve at Burscough for having 300 litres of RO ready for collection for me. It's amazing what you can fit in a litre car when you try.

Doser tubing sorted

UV in place. Might not use this all the time but it's there for when I want it.

And my work of art Big Thumbs Up

Yesterday I transferred my stock and lights, but the truth is id lost the will to live by the time I finished and so it is a mess at the moment, and my corals aren't happy at all, just sulking for a day or so I hope!

Thanks Paul.

Next purchase is a decent clean up crew, only got one hermit in there! Any suggestions anyone to what I might need in this sized tank?

Narcarius snails are brilliant. Turn over sand and also eat uneaten foods. One of my favourite snails. Also the Turbos are always useful. Coming along nicely by the way. How are the corals now ?

Corals are starting to look better. Bubble has definitely lost approx 25%, Funghi Plate seems to be struggling and don't know if it will pull through, the rest though are looking fine.

Stocking wise, I love fish, angels and tang! Definitely want a Regal Angel, Clown Tang and a few others.

Corals, although I'll be running a risk, I will have a mix of softie, LPS and SPS. I like movement, and so will be more LPS than anything.

So, 6 Hermits, 5 x Asteria Snails and a cleaner shrimp added.

Also couldn't resist a red Monti and some Duncan heads.
