@jim_fitz @Shark @wes1984 @jamesfirth1 @powderbluetang

Can anybody tell me the volume of the Aquareef sump - Can't seem to find any info on this. Also I've been looking for an affordable media reactor and came across this brand "Reef Octopus MF-300B Multi Media Filter" - is worth buying???
Reef Octopus MF-300B Multi Media Filter.JPGPrice £69.99

I would say not, not very good filter. Even though your only wanting fish only I would still buy proper "live" rock as the basis of your filter system
@jamesdirth1
James I need your views and opinion regarding “Marco Rock” – I would like to aquascape my main tank and have say 10 – 20 kilos of LR in the sump. I’m really interested in just keeping fish only for 12 months, hopefully this will give the rock time to seed.

I thought I'd better post something then nothing, waiting for my Aquamedic Titanium Heater 300W so that I can start the cycling process.

unfortunately nobody's bothered to post whether they agree or disagree in using “Marco Rock”. I keep hearing how good it is and I certainly don't want to be advertising something I'm uncertain about.

I've never heard of Marko rock.

Nice tank you've bought. You seem to go at my pace in terms of setting up & cycling lol.

Nice to see somebody reads these comments....Since starting the hobby every conversation on YouTube states the obvious "never rush things". My Fluval Edge was an expensive experience I don't want to replicate.
I'm presently at work, working 2 till 10pm watching YouTube majority of the time - better then being at home, not having time as the wife wants me to do other things and my 5 kids being nuisances.

I'm hoping to start with the slowest method by having Marco Rock which will require over 8 weeks of cycling, still ensure whether or not to use a few kilo's of quality LR to help the bacteria along.

5 kids :w00t:.....OMG, you aint got time for a marine tank Hysterical

Yep, do some of my researching on my office PC at work along with checking the forum out.
On my 4x2x2 tank, I used old dry reef bone & spent 8 weeks curing the rock in my garage.

Firstly I believe is called Marco Rock and not marko Rock (Sorry if that sounds condescending) - pictured in previous posting above.

positive comments from various forums:
> No Hitchhikers
> Pure aragonite very little phosphate release just wash and use.
> No unwanted algae
> Make amazing structures

And it's around £5.99

I'm looking to do something such as the picture just above.

You don't make it easy for me do you, who am I to say otherwise to you - A "Moderator".
Here's my plan of thought > I know I will need around 27 to 30 Kilo's of some form of rock, I hoping to use 25 of "Marco Rocks" for it's qualities regarding aquascaping, No hitchhikers and so forth. Being dry rock it will give me more time to create a likable structure\aquascape without worrying to much on keeping it moist. I've got around 5 Kilo's of LR already cycled and clean ready to be used (no algae or Aiptasia) - Please read an article by Richard Aspinall

That's what I liked scaling my last tank with dry cured reef bone. No rush to build it & can build the structures outside of the tank & inside with no sign of water then once happy, fill with water.
Also doing it this way with reef bone meant I was not introducing any nasties to my tank like Mantua shrimps, aiptasias, crabs etc.

iv had all 3 of them :( but i did go the costly way and use all live rock about 50kg's lol......

have you managed to come up with a scape for the rocks yet? and are you puttying it or acrylic rods? or just stack it on top of each other?

I bought a piece of marco rock the other week from burscough which i have curing along with bones and plates for my new build and they will be in there for a minimum of 8 weeks. I thing you will be surprised 25 kg will be approx 5/6 decent pieces and looking at your pics you will need a lot more.

I'm hoping to make up my mind over the weekend so that I can purchase 25 kilos (£150) - I've been informed of its cost per kilo as £6. I will be contemplating using Epo putty @ £4.49 per 100ml > how much I will require !!! - I was talking to the supplier and I'm awaiting photo's of some of his stock.

how much you need will depend on how much you need to stick together lol. some bits might be quite stable and not requre alot of putty other might need alot.
Matt@Epo might be able to advise better?

if i was you id get some larger pieces for the bottom and smaller for the top and maybe a few plate types to make some "bridges" so to speak?

unfortunately James from Burscough aquatics has informed me that they are still waiting for platelets to arrive.
