      Sponges I wouldnt expose as they get air trapped inside that they cant expel easily. Starfish will die due to desiccation, ie. drying out, hence you dont see them on the shoreline alive. Think of it this way, the sea life centre do it on a daily basis, and dont get me wrong I dont think their husbandry is great- but lets face it they cant afford to keep turning over the stock of starfish.

      well put it this way it was out of the water for.... 2 minutes, and it was alive when we returned it to the water, and when we got back to the lab it was still alive, and then when it was returned to the sea it was still alive. (We were at a marine lab).

      It was when I was on my Field trip for Biology and we did some recording, which involved taking photos, Hence the photo. It was one of the ones I took.. not ironic at all I just like the picture :)
