Reef and Marine Fish Forum
I’m hoping someone can help me out - I’m struggling with a few things on our aquarium at the moment, water flow and high nitrates.
We had this tank custom made but when it turned up they had changed the design of the sump from our original designs and installed all the piping in a way I wouldn’t have thought was best practice! I’ve had one issue solved on this forum with the weir so hopefully I can get some help on the this
The tank size is 1568mm (L) x 685mm (H) x 456mm (W) and...
Well you wouldn't believe it,
woke up this morning with less than 24hrs until we go on holiday for ten days to our mustard tang covered in white spot. Setting up a quarantine tank and catching all the fish then expecting our kind neighbors next door who are looking after the fish while we're away to then treat them isn't an option, so I nipped out this morning and bought some polyp lab medic to treat the tank. They are happy to dose this morning and night as well as feeding and I have also...
My mg has been low for a while and despite dosing seachem reef advantage mag weekly, now double the dose that should raise my level, I can't raise it above 1150. So what to do? Because apart from the impact on my tank, and the frustration, it's getting costly. To my eyes nothing seems to be suffering, and even tho my calcium is also low at 350, corals and coraline algae seem to be doing fine. Ph is 8, Alk is 9.5.
My bubble tip nem is giving me concern. I got it about 3/4weeks ago from Gaz Frags up in Sunderland. All healthy and situated itself pretty much where I put it that night. Over the weeks it's moved within a 8" area, from between the rocks to under, into holes etc, but has always kept its tentacles towards the light. It would normally recede under a rock on an evening but came back out every afternoon.
However my concern, I introduced 2 new wave makers last Friday, All pond...
It has often been said flow is one of if not the most important thing we add to our reef aquariums esp SPS dominated. The more corals you have so the flow is diminished and even more so as those SPS grow and fill out all areas of the tank. How much flow should I have and do I have too much flow in my aquarium are regular questions that pop up on reef forums. The simple answer is enough flow to benefit whatever corals you have and not so much as to inhibit their expansion and growth. Now that...
Has anybody used aquaforest kh buffer just got some mixed it in RODI (1lt) mixed it really well left it 2 mins when I came back to it the powders settled on bottom . Should I mix it and put it in sump fast as I can feel like it will just settle out in sump . Trying to up my kh from 6.1 to 7 maybe 8 as I've been ***ing aquaforest component 1 2 3 for a week and kh ain't high enough I'm my opinion
I will be starting a new SW tank soon. I've had some good advice about getting running (the tank was used before so I will be giving it a good clean with vinegar and running polyfilter).
I have been advised to drill the tank and use a sump (ditch the trickle filter in the hood).
The problem I face is a partition in my cabinet which serves as bracing also it seems. I really dont want to mess with the structural integrity of this cabinet. but will do if need be.
hi all just a quick question a bought a 2 corals on Friday 1 of which is the cauliflower coral, and it seems fine I've just noticed that it sometimes closes up and opens normally at night which I thought is fine due to the lights but it's doing it during the day just closing up for a while then reopening, I can't seem to find much info on this coral so wondered if this is normal and why it does it thanks
Hi folks. I was wondering if anyone can help diagnose my problem. A couple of my corals seem to be bleaching as in the pictures below. I am not sure how to remedy the problem as I can't seem to isolate a cause. I thought they may be getting too much light so I turned my lights down for a few weeks but the problem has persisted. I did a bit of reading up on various websites and it seems bleaching can be caused by too little light as well as a number of other factors. Also, a hole has appeared...
