As the title, I know most fish arent 100% reef safe, but in general whats your favourite looking reef safe fish? Im thinking of getting a purple tang but Im open to ideas, the more colourful the better. If you could also post a pic, that would be great [thumbup1.gif]

I'd say for colour can't beat a peacock wrasse or a mandarin, I've got a peacock wrasse and I think it's one of the best fish I've got :)

Hmm Ive got a mandarin and would like something a bit bigger, I have to try and find my in the rocks! I'll have a read up on a wrasse but from what I remember reading about them I dont know if it would suit.

Theres currently

2 tomato clowns (breeding pair)
2 bangai cardinals (breeding pair)
1 yellow tang
1 sailfin tang
1 unicorn tang
1 vlamingi tang
1 mandarin
1 damsel

the vlamingi tang and unicorn are going to have to go, I got these with the tank but they get too big for my tank. Id like one to replace these, something that isn't too small or always hidden away. Any ideas would be great thanks. They are the ones always up at the front of the glass, will be rather boring without them

I've seen peacock wrasse, there also known as splendid leopard wrasse, upto about 4" but I think they can grow bigger, the one I have is always right out and upfront it's a proper character.

The thing that put me off was the guy who had the tank before me had a wrasse and got rid of it because it was kicking up sandstorms. The two points Id have to read up on are if they bury in the sand (dont want rockfalls) and also if its likely to jump out of the tank. I did a google for images and they certainly are colourful. I'll have a read up later thanks, always out at the front is what I want :) Im just missing my koran angel :(

The problem is you have said reef safe and it will be very hard to find any fish that are reef safe that is bigger then say a mandarin

I have got a lemon peel and a flame angle they are not even 60% reef safe but IMHO its worth the risk

Sorry, you are quite right, I hoped people would catch on when I said I know no fish can be 100% reefsafe [blush.gif] Maybe its the title that has ruined it. I've seen regal tangs in great looking coral reef set ups and obviously they arent advertised as reefsafe. What I should have asked is whats your favourite looking fish that has a good chance of not touching the corals or has been OK in your set up. Thanks for the feedback I wondered why not many replied and I was just getting mandarin [blushing.gif]

Just need something to replace my koran angel with so Im out for ideas, I wont be posting back saying you said such and such would be ok and i caught him with a knife and fork, napkin tied round throat tucking in to my zoa's and its all your fault :-:o I like my mandarin but Im not really in to small fish to be honest.

I guess this opens the floodgates a little but like I say Im just after ideas, once people post their suggestions I can google and make my own mind up whether to take the risk :)
