Thumbs up The Salty Box / ACS 30 litre Nano - IT'S ARRIVED! (Proper) Pics on Page 5

This thread all stems from the ACS nano competition so I thought it fitting that you guys all get wind of what I'm looking at doing with it!

Might be getting a bit ahead of myself here as the tank is yet to arrive, however after a lengthy conversation with Nick from ACS, I cannot wait to get this tank started.

As you may already be aware I have two other tanks, one 2' cube (stocked and maturing) and a 5'x2'x2' that I have just started stocking. So whilst this cube may have to play at least second fiddle to the larger tank, it gives me ample time to decide what I want to do with it.

If, in the meantime anyone has any ideas about general maintenance of such small volumes of water, I'll be very grateful. I'm expecting to be topping up twice a day with RO.

So far I'm not planning to stock any fish in the tank but that's all I'm willing to give away at this early stage! (That said, what I would *like* to stock in there, may need the presence of a fish...)

    That'll do for now..!

hmmmmmmm, how about some rarer corals and a shrimp and goby pair! make it reaally special as it is the offical salty box tank!
Scuba is the way to go
but taking a slice of reef home is just as good.

Like the rarer corals idea...not such a fan of the shrimp and goby partnership though - would need a large (deep) sandbed and I can ill afford to lose any more volume in such a small tank!

    Keep 'em coming!

In regards to maintance, a good fitting cover glass would definitely stop the swings in salinity. In regards to water changes it is recommend 10% weekly due to problems with nutrient export. I would recommend about 5-6kg of live rock and cheato and filterfloss after each water change.

In regards to stocking, why not try evoita gobies, they host corals. The other option is a blue stripe pipefish. I kept a pair (well 2males- they killed each other) in my 30l but they prefer lower flow and i netted over my intakes. They can be kept with stinging coral, i know someone with one with a large cataphillia.

    Anymore questions please ask
