allegedly fighting dogs although not aggresive enough , but an all round dog , guard companion etc , and when they die they would also eat them

There are some things that we don't do because they are difficult, there are many more that are difficult because we dont do them.

i have had a fawn dog called umph . and my other sid who i have now he is black but carries the lilac , blue and fawn genes. shar peis are great dogs to own. very protective of their owners and families. loyal as the day is long. and thick as pig ****. A pei was the first dog i ever owned and the only one i would ever have now.they are a real member of the family !! . shar pei were used as herding and work dogs. also used for fighting but between shar pei and usually had to be induced to fight due to their placid nature. when europeans brought other dogs to china such as mastiffs sharpei were no match for them and the fighting died out. The breed nearly died out in 1974 due to china imposing a tax for owning a dog, they were bred out of china therefore now making them a popular dog and the breed coming back to popularity.
