Default Hils & Tone tank thread ~ RSM 130D

Well, we are beside ourselves with excitement. Rather than buy that second car, we've blown some of the money on a new Salty Box

We are now the proud owners of a Red Sea MAX 130D.

Our local Aquajardine have this tank as a display tank, which has been running for almost a year and they seem to be pretty happy with it.

Anyway, we took the plunge and are hoping to have a nem (or several nems depending on the advice we receive on here) and two maroon clowns.

The only drawback is doing to be waiting until the tank is ready for a nem!! (impatience and marine just do not go side by side).

Set it up yesterday, put the crushed coral in, salted water and heater and are now waiting for the temperature to reach goal.

It was suggested that we test the salt, temperature and PH and then add a handful of sand from our 4 footer and a piece of rock from our 4 footer to help the cycle.

Is that about right? Should we be doing anything else??

    thanks in advance

    Hillie

Yes - I started off with this tank. I am about to start again with it, now my back seems to be OK again.

good news there This is not such a good hobby for joints, aches and pains ~ especially since reading the thread advising of spitting corals....haven't got the stamina to jump out of the way these days

I'm going to have a good read of all the threads about start-ups again to make sure we do this one properly. I'd like to think we did our 4 footer properly, but I know we rushed certain things.

We'd really love to have this tank just for a nem (or several nems if that's possible) with a couple of chunky maroon clowns. Clearly, I will be getting Tone to be dipping his hands in, as I have heard they can give a good old nip

    LOL.

Quickest way ive found to get a new tank going is to use existing water. Rob a kilo or 2 of rock from your old tank and as much water as you can spare (yes it will be high in nitrates etc... but with all the fresh water you'd need to fill the rest of the tank it should be fine) and a few scoops of sand (as you said). This is under the asumption your other tank is all stable etc. You should see it cycled in a few days .

They have nice tanks in Aquajardin, i quite like the complete glass ones they have, as for live stock, real reefs or sw marines are the best in our area IMHO.

! We've actually asked Aquajardine to get us one great big piece of blue live rock...have you seen it? Stunning stuff.

We've added a couple of rocks from our 4 footer and it's coming along nicely !!
