Liverock in your suitcase

Remote l know but just after a little help and advice.

l live in Norway where choice of liverock is poor and the poor choice is very expensive.

Have paid for a couple of extra suitcases so l can bring back 30kg of liverock, outlet in the uk will let me have cites import number and of course l'll have a receipt of purchase.

Anyone have any tips, experience and guidance? Airline is ok with it, it's just the cross border redtape l'm interested in.

To be honest leaving the UK with it wont be your problem, your problem will arise at your destination, you need to check with Norways customs

Would you be better buying ceramic/artificial rock?

It's cheaper, and it won't stink from the die-off when you get home! Have a look for the Aquaroche stuff.

Am on the case with Norwegian customs..... l've actually had ceramic rock before, l think it looks too man made.

What about reef bones? Cheaper then live rock and don't have to worry so much about customs then buy a small amount when you get back to seed.

I hear what you're saying but l much prefer kicking off a tank with live rock. My first tank attempt was with ceramics, l had huge hair algae issues, l just don't want to go there or risk it again.

Good point, trawling through cites and defra paperwork l'm wondering why it's so much hassle to import rock. lt's termed live because of the bacteria, a load of hassle for a few billion microbes......

l'm slowly going towards riffsystem.......
