    Default Dishonest people.

Okay, so I bought some parts for my car, and rather than buying the pair I needed I bought 12, as a bulk buy was more cost effective. I sold a few of the parts on to get some money back (not to make any money mind, just to break even) and I've just had a Paypal email telling me that a payment has been reversed by either the buyers bank, or the buyer himself. It's on hold at the moment while they investigate. I've never had this problem before and I'm not sure how to take it up with the buyer.

How would you deal with this?

Personally I would ask them strait and deal with there answer accordingly, I would also keep any emails as proof etc

Should I wait until Paypal have investigated further and let me know what their findings are? To be honest, I didn't think this would happen selling on a regional motoring forum where everyone is within a 50 mile radius of each other, and all drive the same brand cars.

It might not be dishonest, this happened to Mrs fm and it turned out the other party had a problem with the bank, she was most apologetic and sorted the cash out. I suspect she didn't have enough in the bank. I'd contact the buyer if you can

You could wait, or you could just email the person and ask, there's no harm in that just don't be rude and save the emails, PayPal will do something but, just keep an eye on them and keep on there case because as you can understand such a big company things get missed etc lol,

Maybe I'll just let it go and wait for my chance to get him back sometime. That might be the easiest way forward, given the sum of money involved.

Did you get trackable delivery? If you can prove it was posted/ delivered, Paypal will usually find in your favour under seller protection. If you didn't get it tracked/ signed for, then PP will probably find in the buyers favour.

No, not tracked. Didn't even get a proof of postage as it was just a first class stamp and popped in the mail box.

The Paypal amount in question is £1. That's One English Pound....

I'm hoping it's a Paypal / bank cock up, because if he's grumbling about a quid for 2 remote fob batteries delivered then he really has issues. Oh, and it ended up 77p after Paypal deducted their charges as he forgot to gift it.

He forgot to gift it? Sounds like an ideal way to cause a charge back as they are not available on gift payments. The even worse news is that if PP find in the buyers favour and chargeback the transaction, they levy a £10 admin fee (may be more now) for the priviledge.

I sent out some digital thermometers to a buyer once, recorded delivery. Bought through the buyers ebay account, paid for by the PP owners account and signed for at the registered address, so covered by seller protection. After 87 days, the buyer lodged an unauthorised transaction on the sale and I was out of pocket to the tune of £15 (PP fee plus thermos). I closed my PP account as it took me into a negative balance and opened a new one with a new email address.
