    Default 3D Television advice

I'm looking for a new TV and thinking may as well get one of the "new" 3D ones.

I'm looking for advice on whether to go "Active 3D glasses" or "Passive 3D Glasses"

1: Active are about £60 a pop vs Passive at £2 - with kids this could be an important factor
2: Is there a quality difference?
3: I have Sky TV (do they both work with the 3D package)
4: Distance could be an issue "eye to tv" is about 18foot (do the active ones have a max range)
5: Not looking to spend the earth but also because of the distance I'd say it has to be a 50".

I have passive, there is in my eyes no massive noticable difference in quality, sky 3D works perfect on them. The difference between them is on passive the TV does all the work whilst active the glasses do it. The expense of the glasses put me off the active TV's. Toshiba are the current pioneers of passive TV.
Ive got 42" with a 3D blu ray and paid around £700 six months ago and i know they have come down in price.

You actually haven't asked this question but depending on where you get you films from, wink wink, I'd defo go for a samsung as they seem to have a much more usable media player but I think they're all active shutter though.

We have a 50" Samsung, active shutter glasses. They switch off when you look away from the screen to preserve battery life, and make lights and stuff look like they're flickering. I like the telly, have some good films, (incuding some "back ups" from eBay) and the effect is good. Tried out a passive in PC World the other week and wished we hadn't been persuaded to go active by the salesman as the glasses are a) cheaper and b) lighter, so more comfortable to wear.

The main crunch and complaint from people is the weight or fit of the glasses. Try the glasses on for at least 10 minutes each in the shop for comfort etc. It's easy to get swept up in the moment of buying the set only to find that after 20mins of a 2hr film your nose is aching owing to poor fit.

I had a lg active and hated it the glasses give me head aches and the crosstalk was horrible it ruined everything
I swapped it for a lg passive and wow there a lot better i can play games for hours without straining and equally as good 3d
Even the guys at richer sounds said active is poor they don't blame me for wanting swap

    4. I know my LG Active recommends you sit 2m away for best viewing pleasure.

We asked all the same questions before we go our 3d tv,, I wanted to go passive mainly because of the cost of the glasses, Amanda wanted active, so we got active, and I’m definitely not disappointed.
