Hmm not looking at the lights to be honest, Mostly whats happening in the tank. So for a tank about 6 foot you would need three units (Pricing comes into effect then). Obviously the spread and depth could be compensated for sps being higher up. Hot swapable parts would be ideal?

If it was based on looks alone, then these units win hands down.

If the performance is as it seems, then it looks like they will win hands down in every other department as well.

I never called the others Ladas though, but I do remember when they did the M6 motorway near Thelwall, and there was a yellow skip in the middle of the road, with wheels drawn on, and Lada written in huge letters down the side.
    deb+wayne and tarakihi like this.

The looks thing is my way of saying, if they have taken the time to design them and make them look like that, then it is obvious they will have taken the time for it's guts etc as well.

I am not 100% one unit will do my tank, I just get the impression it will do because of the way they are designed and the 120 degree lenses etc etc

On a 6 footer, it all depends how the rock is I guess. Some people have about a foot clear either end, so effectively only a 4 foot tank would need lighting to that degree for SPS - Therefore you would probably get away with just 2?

If you are near Warrington, feel free to pop by when they are here, so you get a better feel of the spread etc?

i am already selling tickets to the NW attraction

perhaps mr, Orphek can reply, i am sure i heard somwhere that these will put out a Par equivilant to 400w halides, is this the case. ?

Price wise for 3 for me, it would just be too far out of my price range to consider these.

I had the same dilemma when the pr92 came out, which was apparently equivalent to 250w halides, again i was unable to go this route due to cost, as once the unit got near 6 foot it was 2k +

I will no doubt be Ged's 2nd pair of eyes, as his are getting old and unfocused nowadays, god knows how many times i have seen Ged's tank, so i very often notice changes that Ged hasn't seen

also i have a 6 foot tank and as mentioned live near Ged, it would obviously save on postage if you where to drop me 3 trial units off too

I got 2 of the other units that are not the most reliable LED units (in my opinion) and when one failed, moving the other unit to cover in the middle was not too bad.

But.... The Orphek ones certainly look more up to the job.

The price is a little off putting is you were setting up a new tank, but then if you take into account the electricity that you would save over x amount of years, they are very cost effective.
    Hi Ged

Like everyone else, I'm very much looking forward to your review, having had a unit trialled for a few weeks now, I'm sure you're gonna be very impressed

Can I just ask how much you paid for your 2 curent Led units ?

Bare in mind 1 unit will cover your tank, how does the prices compare with the Orphek PR-156w retailing at £749 against 2 of your other lights?

    cheers,

    Nick
