    Hi Ged

I've recently decided to start keeping fish and have recently bought a Vicenza 260. I'm going to give tropical fish a go first, then all being well (and when I've got a few years experience!) I'd like to get a marine tank as well.

I'm around a week into (fishlessly) cycling the tank but I was looking around for easier ways of doing water changes than lugging buckets around the flat. I did look at using the python system but wasn't sure about it as I don't think it allows properly for removing the chlorine from the tank or controlling the temperature of the water you're putting in. Do you think you could use this system effectively with a tropical tank to address these issues?

    Cheers,

    Andy

wondered what the python system was you mentioned so googled it

they must be joking, either that or american water quality must be of a standard the uk cannot match which i very much doubt.

even a freshwater aquaria i would not follow that process, no matter what you decide i would never add water straight from the tap, it needs to stand and be aerated at the very least

    video is here

    both for your quick replies!

I was actually wondering whether the Reefloat would be suitable for the tropical tank (obviously minus the salt...). What would you think?

tbh I think it would be fine, you could even use it to mix dechlorinator (I think that's how you spell it) etc in there possibly?

It is still going to work on the same principle, ie it drags old water out, mixes it with new so both the tank and the AWC end up with the same water.

nearly all my customers have been salty, with one exception of a discus enthusiast who purchased an ATO
trouble is my comments are a little biased understandingly i hope!
but would have thought the AWC as ideal if you want to keep water changes simple and mess free, they are not a necessity by any means as the job can be done manually, what tends to happen though is done manually it can be time consuming and all too often the job is put off until next week, and when next week comes it still doesnt get done, neglected altogether and the consequences can be dire. (freshwater or marine)

water changing straight from the tap cannot be a good idea, it seems to be the case where manufacturers are turning out products totally unsuitable all too often these days, the recent posts on the magnet cleaners being another example.

is it all down to saving money? believe it is but at what cost to the user, sorry gone off the subject of the thread, shouldn't as it is about something I make after all - I would rather not sell any than have 1 unhappy customer.
