Arrow Iquatics AquaLumi T5 Lighting Unit Review

Ok, so i got my new light unit delivered on Friday, thanks to Rich for getting it out so fast. I have purchased the 6 x 54w 4ft unit.

The light unit and the tubes that were delivered by UPS had been very well packed to the point it took me half an hour to get in them.

    I went for 4 x 10k white tubes along with 2 x Blue+ tubes.

Overall the build quality of the unit is good and looks slick over the tank.

Here are the pics of the unit on the tank.

It's very much like the Arcadia Luminaire with the metal silver finish on the top with the plastic sliding cover to protect the bulbs from splash back. The legs sit on the tank well and support the unit when raised. The top of the unit is cool to the touch when the unit is running.

After looking at the light over the unit, I decided it was to blue as I already have 2 x blue Aquarays over the tank.

I have since replaced the blue tubes and 2 x 10k tubes with the D&D Blue Plus tubes and dimmed the aquaray down to 60% on the controller. With this in mind I found no use for the built in timers as I class the full 6 tubes as main lights and they all come on at the same time after the Aquarays.

This unit IMO offers fantastic value for money and offers reefers the chance to have a neat compact unit on their tank without the hefty price tag of an ATI unit.

I'm very happy with the unit and the fact I have finally found a unit that offers 6 tubes over my tank with the need to have it hanging. The options are so much greater with the 6 tubes than with halide for different colour variations using different tubes. Not to mention the evaporation has been cut down by half.

    They do look very smart.

If by any chance you didn't like the tubes provided or had wanted an ATI unit, I reckon this is a serious contender, if you used those bulbs instead.

I agree mate, the bulbs come free so you have lost nothing if you do want to change them. All tanks differ as do the people that like their tanks looking a certain way, guess its just preference. For me the aquarays just added too much blue with the blue+ as well.
