Hi all,
I'm new to salt water aquariums but not new to aquariums, I'v currently got 4 musk turtles in a 5ft fresh water aquarium. I was intrested to know if I was to make a rock pool set up for our native critters, how can I mimic the tide going in and out? Or is it not a requirment? Cheers

Re: Tidal equipment?
no its not a requirement, tidal effect not something I would particularly recommend, that is unless you enjoy the mechanics of water movement and the noise that goes with it!
I did this some time ago with moderate success but have to admit its a bit of a novelty, the tidal requirements are not necessary to keep local marines as many here will testify.
have a look at this thread, may be of interest british rockpool aquaria (another old one moved here)Last edited by reefloat; 25-03-2012 at 09:31.

Re: Tidal equipment?
Cheers Nice set up! So with regaurds to the beer cooler/chiller being outside, I imagin most people keep them protected from the elements in a shed or case close to the tank?

Re: Tidal equipment?
mine is now dismantled but the beer cooler was simply protected by a plastic sheet, not ideal in hindsight but did the job, electrically wise a little better protection against the elements would be preferable - it was piped from outside to the tank, worked a treat
