This is my first attempt at marine keeping, it all started after I saw my brother's rio 125. So after a little time spent researching into different set-up's I came across the 'braceless/rimless' look and fell in love. I also fell in love with SPS, just to make my first reef even more of a challenge. After 10 enjoyable months this is the stage my tank is at.

Well this is the first tank I have had running, it is around 10 months old now and started with a mix of corals. These were bought from my friends tank breakdown and at the time I loved them all, after a couple of months went by I decided to sell most the softies and try my luck at SPS.

So all of the above got sold and I also re-scaped at the same time to host my future SPS. My first two frags were a red/brown plate and a brown hystrix!! These can be seen below with my new aquascape,

A month or so went passed but they stayed brown and did not grow so I decided to change my lighting from the MG1000 with 14K Iquatic bulbs to the 6x39W ATI with the tube combo mentioned above. I also decided to upgrade my skimmer from the V2 600 to the AM turboflotor 1000SL to keep nutrient as low as possible. I took a trip to Nev's for some frags, and they kept there colour and continued to grow under my new ATI unit. For me this was the biggest and best improvement/change I have made along the way. I recommend using NoPoX along side reef energy A&B, I am personally seeing great results since using these.

My corals began to grow and the colours improved day by day. Now the frags seen in the above pictures taken 30/05/11 are small colonies. I felt it was time I could add small/medium colonies to my tank and be fairly confident they would do well. So after a few colonies and a couple more frags you can see where my tank is today,

I am running a 3 chamber sump, first section has the overflow into a nylon filter sock, my skimmer is also in this section. I have filter floss inbetween the baffles, second section has a DSB and cheato reverse lit. The final section has my UV steriliser, calcium reactor and return pump. This can all be seen below

I am now finally happy with the equipment Im running after swapping and changing 4 skimmers, 3 calcium reactors, 2 light units and from Vortech to Tunze back to Vortech!!!
I am more than pleased with the Bubble magus skimmer, I can't fault the performance at all,
Its early days for my Bubble magus CA100T but I am again pleased with it so far but using PH monitor is alot easier,
I was running MP40 and MP10, decided to change to Tunze as I wanted to be able to change the angle of flow but felt the Vortech was better suited due to it's wider flow. So I have changed back to Vortech.
for reading my TOTM, hope it's helped to let you know all about how I run my system and not been to boring (if you managed to read it all!!)
Again a big thankyou for all those who voted and have taken the time to read this and follow my tank thread. Also those who have helped me along the way and get my tank to where it is today![]()
