Marine Habitat – Distribution
Marine Habitat (MH) is a dedicated marine fishkeeping publication, published bi-monthly in the UK by Fish Junkies Ltd.
The English-language edition is also distributed to Europe, USA and the rest of the world. It is available in the format of a printed magazine with a supporting website that provides a whole host of additional content. While issue one of the magazine was launched with a page count of fifty two, it has since increased to sixty pages and is set to rise again as circulation continues to increase.
Fish Junkies Ltd, the publishers, aims to support global marine conservation efforts through the sale of the Marine Habitat publication.
Marine Habitat – Supporting Marine Conservation
The oceans occupy approximately 70% of our planet’s surface, containing approximately 97% of the planets water. Within these vast oceans, magnificent natural structures known as coral reefs exist. Unfortunately, nearly 60% of the world’s remaining coral reefs are at significant risk of being lost in the next 30 to 40 years.
Marine Habitat as a publication will raise awareness and funds. There are a number of organisations out there, many of which are non-profit based who work continuously towards securing the future of our marine life. The publication of Marine Habitat will ease their efforts with financial donations cumulated through its pledge to donate a percentage of the magazine sale price to this cause. A minimum of 5p from every single copy of the magazine sold will be reserved and at the end of each year, a non-profit marine conservation organisation will be selected from around the world to benefit from this. None of the money allocated will be used for any other purpose. There are many positives to this approach, the main one being that the more magazines sold, the more will be able donated and the bigger impact the donation will have. To ensure the production of a trusted, accurate and interesting publication, Marine Habitat has brought a fantastic team of experts on board, who will share their knowledge and experience with Marine Habitat readers through written articles and imagery. Marine Habitat – Contents
Marine Habitat is a diverse publication with each issue covering a wide range and variety of subjects. Issue 1 looks at crustaceans, lighting methods, fish breeding, aggressive behaviours, algae management, acclimation, quarantine and also some more unusual subjects like the use of vodka to reduce nitrates and phosphates.
In addition, detailed profiles are provided within each issue on a selection of the various species available for the aquarium. Issue 1 includes the Emperor Anglefish, Dove Snail and the Doughnut Coral.
